How do you think those heavy hitting mid-high drums toward the middle/end of the song were compressed?

They're so incredibly hard-hitting and triumphant, yet do nothing to harm the ears.

Don't think it's a compression thing. Although most percussion will will have processing on them but its almost guaranteed a sample so if you have a good sample then it's just about mixing it very loudly if that's what you're after.
