Hey,

I'm building a tool that translates plugin chains between DAWs — you drag a
vocal chain from Logic, it rebuilds it in Ableton with a translation report
showing what matched and what needed a substitute plugin.

Before I spend 18 months on this I want to know if it's actually a problem
people have, or just a problem I have.

5-minute survey: https://forms.gle/uBLdX2cQDukH4f6u6 (https://forms.gle/uBLdX2cQDukH4f6u6)

If you've ever rebuilt a chain by hand when switching DAWs, or sent a session
to a collaborator on a different DAW and had it fall apart — you're exactly
who I want to hear from.

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

It's a Google Forms survey. Are you new to the internet & the Google ecosystem, or just another paranoid poindexter, wannabe Captain Save-A-Nerd that thinks their email address is #1 on everyone's watch list? Get a clue! If you've been using the internet for any length of time, and using Google products for any length of time..Google Forms should not be alien to you in the slightest. You know whats not cool? Taking it upon yourself to police a public forum while acting like you're brand new to the internet, and lowkey half insinuating OP is harvesting email addresses for nefarious purposes. Absolute braindead activities.

To OP..filled out your survey. I like the idea, and could definitely see a use for an app like you describe. Hope it works out! Look forward to seeing what becomes of it.

You know what else is not cool? Making childish, snotty remarks to someone and just being a dick in general. No, I don't use any Google products, because Google is well-known to be invasive and mine whatever data they can from users. Get a clue! Or just let them and anyone else have your data if that trips your trigger. You want brain-dead, look in the mirror.

I too am not signed up with gargle & don't relish them back-tracing my email for data mining...

As far as OP... I use alotta VST chainers that do job fine between any DAW... Xlutop, VSTForx, Blue Cat Patchworx, MultiFXVST, Phrazor (non-expiring beta), DDMF Metaplugin, Image-Line Minihost Modular, Plogue Bidule, EnergyXT VST version and a few not recommended like VSTboard, Angry Red Planet Temper... Much has been done & in this oldskool fashion your 'chains' can go into even old trackers-sequencers that have VST system...

Good list, there's a few I don't know. I'm looking for a Minihost alternative.

And yeah - I'm not going to give OP my E-mail address either, I don't even bother to enter a fake one anymore. I don't need more spam.

Like MiniHost?... VSTforx is like that with schematic view... You can save out your connected crap to use in another DAW... VSTforx used to be commercial then the guy gave it out free, so it's pretty good-

https://www.werckme.org/extras

It's 32/64 win plus MAC...

There's also another cool function of VSTforx... Using the remote channel sender VSTforx can then receive realtime audio from one DAW to another with virtually zero latency... So it's way better than reastream or streamboy, etc...

Thing is that the DLLs did not make it to the guy's new site from the old but they are still there-

32bit-

64bit-

http://www.vstforx.de/downloads/RemoteC ... -win64.zip

MAC-

DDMF Metaplugin good too, I think they have another version called something different now but Metaplugin fine for me... Commercial though...

For 32bits win I like Phrazor also as it can stack plugs VSTi with VST plus sync with the host or not, run regular or use as multitimbral if host can handle that plus if sync the some composing can be done in Phrazor as well as host, excellent stability & great plug scanning even as a beta better than most that are out there...

https://web.archive.org/web/20130509074 ... Beta5c.zip

It comes as installer but is quite portable really afterwards...

Here I can run EGO Pad in Skale Tracker via Phrazor (quite an achievement) as EGO Pad hard on DAWs-

Image

Another good one but only 32bits & a 'stacker' is multiFXVST... You can stack a buttload of FX, change order, access internal presets or load/save FXP/FXB & hook any param from any FX to MultiFXVST then to host for automation... Save your 'chains' out to use in another crappy host... Plus it's just a DLL really... Portability...

Image

Another 32bit 'stacker' is Acon Digital FX Chainer which can mix VST & DX plugs together... It is old freewares-

DL-

Manual-

Image

Another freeware like Acon is the FFX-4 from the VB Audio-

Image

There's VSTboard which is back being developed after like a decade of nothingness... I have used the old versions which no host would ingest... Maybe that's changed now, haven't tried it recently-

http://vstboard.blogspot.com/

Also Temper from Angry Red Planet... Have found it rather unstable I have found it thusly unuseable.... Used to be commercial but been free for long time...

Thanks for all the information, eLawnMust. Where can I get the (new) free version of VSTforx? I think I downloaded it last year when people said it's free again but it was still the commercial version. Are your links the updated versions?

Essentially I need a x86 plugin host plugin that allows me to freely route audio/automation and access parameters of my choice from outside. Transport and tempo information should also be supported (Something Minihost doesn't have, making syncing plugins impossible). Ideally it should work with multiples of 44.1 kHz as well and be compatible with ArkeCode's VST Oversampler which is my standard (and in my opinion best) oversampling wrapper.

Metaplugin is out of the question, it crashes with older plugins which don't support all samplerates from 44.1 to 192 kHz. It's also way too heavy on the CPU. multiFXVST and Acon Digital FX Chainer are even less stable, they crash on almost every plugin I tried. But there's still several I haven't even heard of like Angry Red Planet Temper. Lots of testing ahead of me. I don't like it but it needs to be done.

You certainly don't wanna download VSTforx from anywhere other than developer otherwise it'll probably be the older commercial version...

It's on the upper left-

https://www.werckme.org/extras

It has been free since 2017-

Image

Here's the old spot... those links work too but you gotta take them outta the wayback machine & make the links current state-

https://web.archive.org/web/20190706155 ... p/download

How about Image-Line MiniHost Modular?... Tried that?... I suppose I could upload...

Post

I downloaded VSTforx from the source. That's why I asked if the developer updated the links in the meantime.

I was referring to Image-Line Minihost Modular. It's nice but it refuses to switch to higher samplerates when put in a oversampling wrapper and it does not support transport/tempo messages, so syncing effects inside of it with the main host is impossible.

Post

Plogue Bidule may be your only hope... Thank you for your attention to this matter...

Post

VSTforx keeps crashing on several plugins. What a shame. Moving on to the next entries. I don't expect any of them to be on par with Image-Line though, they were always the masters of plugin compatibility (One of the biggest reasons for me to use FL Studio as well). Minihost runs pretty much everything. If it only had those additional features...

I just started demanding dawproject support from my hosts.
