Thanks for bringing this up. Had a break from music for a few years so I completely forgot I had a license for vibe eq. I'm now happily reunited with it and it sounds every bit as good as it used to.

I also demo'd The Rocket tonight and it's absolutely brilliant! I was A-B'ing it against the UAD 1176AE, 1176LN, and 1176grey plugins. They all have a slightly different character but the rocket was right up there with them. What a gem.

Going to have to demo a few more of their plug ins I reckon :o

I think installing plugins individualy is convenient. Bundle installers like the ones from IK and Softube seem like a ploy to get you to buy plugins you don’t need.

Well.. Tech goes forward and at some point "vintage" plugins kinda lose their meaning :P
Well... Just because a plugin is old doesn’t mean it can’t do a job very well. Particularly if it was well designed in the first place. That’s why I LOVE the KVR marketplace :P

Don’t be fooled by marketing that leads to wastefulness and excessive consumerism, you know the constant pursuit of newer things. At Abbey Road they are still using consoles and outboard from the 70s because it works. They have lots of money and easily could have cleared out their entire vintage mic collection for new modern microphones if they wanted.

Well.. That's pretty much what I asked ;)

Just wondering if these plugins are still relevant today. Have they been abandoned?

Post

They're relevant if you like them. Technology wise, they are maybe a bit long in the tooth. I doubt they get updated much, if at all though. I'm thinking he went to work for bitwig, I could be wrong about that tho.

If they are still for sale then they must be supported somehow. I did note that the copyright has been updated on the site till 2024. Probably they are still operating in some minimal fashion.

I still use the Oligarc effects bundle, every now and then, but I never bought there other plugins. I downloaded a bunch of the demos and then just never really used them. Not sure why. Olga is a pretty cool synth, but that UI is too cute by half. Make something that can be easily read and is intuitive and I’d use it all the time.

Individual installers are not really convenient.
Bundle installers that allow you to select only things you own are convenient. Like Kilohearts or Plugin Alliance or the product portals from UVI, Arturia, etc

And a little bit of thread necromancy never hurt anyone, has it?

Plugins updated. LOTS of plugins updated. New plugin too. New website.

Linux builds are not out of the question, but I've got years worth of stuff to get cranked out in as little time as possible...I'll admit that I've built at least one plugin and had it working as VST3 under Linux...but that's a long way from a full release for everything on an entirely new platform.
