Yeah, unfortunately there's at least two incompatible standards for how a 3.5mm TRS to DIN MIDI cable can be wired (called A or B)

yup, i have some that are not cross compatible with other gear that uses them.
most things come with one, but if you leave them unlabeled, they all look the bloody same

Well, I got the black DIN-to-TRS MIDI cable connected to the Metal Fetishist and am sequencing fine from my DAW. Yes, the black TRS-to-DIN that came with OXI One is still in its plastic bag. Do you think it's not compatible with the DIN MIDI in on the Cascadia?
...or the converter that came with M.F. is not compatible with the OXI One?
I have a label maker at work, I can label the two MIDI converters.

Post

OK, tested it and confirmed. The OXI One midi converter is a different standard than the older MIDI converter but still connects fine with my DIN MIDI cable to play Cascadia. I have to keep both MIDI TRS-to-DIN converters now, wonderful .... don't you just love a lack of universal standards.

Its stablised on Type-A now, as that's now what the actual MIDI standard dictates, but it was all over the place to begin with. Some of those products are still being made as-was. Its definitely a mess.

Here's the listing for the Poly Effects beebo/hector family, for example
Before Pink serial 475, Blue Beebo serial 338: Type B, 3.5 MM TRS. This is the same ring active pin out as Chase Bliss.

Pink serial 475-876, Blue Beebo serial 338-936 : Type A input, 3.5 MM TRS. This is the MIDI standard pin out. Type B output. It's stupid.

Pink serial 877 or later, Blue Beebo serial 937 or later: Type A input and output, 3.5 MM TRS. This is the MIDI standard pin out.

Hector & Flat V and all type A in and out.

OMG, I freaking hate how TRS MIDI jacks have been rolled out. Have you ever seen all the different formats of 1/4" MIDI inputs on pedals? :dog: :help:

I'm glad that things have stabilized around Type A for MiniJack TRS MIDI but I have a bunch of Type B stuff. I made some Female>Male Minijack adapters which swap the Tip and Ring connectors, and those have solved a lot of problems, since it allows me to go straight TRS without using two 5-pin adapters. I also got a CME H12MIDI Pro, which detects which type of input is connected. Outputs are all Type A.

Ooh, thats nice and small too.

I have some cheap $7 Trs A/B | B/A cables that work really well, but that’s about it. The odd one out for me are the Chase Bliss stuff that did their own thing with MIDI. I don’t even bother with connecting, using them as standalone instead.

The Polly Effects Beebo is probably the worst with the different types depending on when it was manufactured. It was something I didn’t realize until selling Beebo to someone else who was then trying to make sense of it! :o - It was all sorted quickly, but annoying all the same.

Meris have too, think a number of pedal makers do this so they can sell their own £100+ MIDI modules.

Are you safe?

Win 7, a great DAW platform. A modern PC might using Windows 7 will need UEFI and Secure Boot disabling in the bios.

Maybe a great choice as a slave machine when using Audiogridder or Vienna Ensemble Pro, etc.

Made a start, but need new drill bits for the holes. Only took an hour to copy 10 ends. Not cutting out the silly triangles

Turned out to be waste of a fuckin weekend. The big hole was too big/wrong position. The longer m3 bolts I bought were not long enough, and the mdf spilt along the bottom when drilling the 2 bigger of the smaller holes.

Used the original frame and bolted the 2 synths into it.

Added to the end of a track with Cascadia’s hat sound sequenced repetitively into its filter in notch mode and transforming it by lowering the VCF fader while raising the VCA fader. Going through Supamix with an LFO from Envy Machine slowly panning it left and right and then fading out.
Cool to hear a sound transforming into noise.
