Hi :D

SuperStutter just got fully released! It's based on the idea that if we convert pitch to stutter-intervals, it creates really nice FM like leads - similar to grain oscillations. That was the original main purpose - ten years ago, when I prototyped it and it also had a really great name: ReBeat.

Now it's finally out and it can do way more, than what I originally had in mind, which is great!
But also a new name was needed - don't ask xD

Here is how it sounds:

Super Stutter is a Live Stutter and Glitch Engine that captures incoming audio and triggers stuttered playback at musical pitch intervals, beat-grid divisions, milliseconds, or Hz — all freely assignable across 16 pads and 4 sequencer patterns, ready to jam live on and record — all wrapped in live input quantization — keeping it musical and on the beat.

Full Feature List:

Audio Engine:
  • 64-bit floating point audio engine.
  • 4-second continuous ring buffer capture.
  • 8 multi-buffer audio slots with temporal ordering.
  • Wet/dry mix control (0–100%).
  • VST3 and AU compatible.
Stutter Engine:
  • Pitch: −24 to +24 semitones with optional quantize.
  • Stutter Scale: 0.1× to 10× with optional quantize.
  • Octave: −3 to +3.
  • Glide with musical-fraction or ms timing.
  • Reverse playback (momentary).
  • Time scrub: ±4 seconds offset in sample slot.
  • Sample select: jump between last 8 captured samples.
Pad Grid:
  • 16 trigger pads (4×4 layout).
  • Per-pad stutter length in musical fractions, milliseconds, Hz, or note values.
  • Per-pad octave offset.
  • Drag-to-edit or text-entry value input per pad.
Step Sequencer:
  • 4 rows × 16 steps.
  • Per-step trigger, record, and pad assignment.
  • Row-level copy/paste.
  • Randomize all, triggers, records, or pad assignments per row.
  • 4 storable patterns with instant select.
  • AutoPattern: 16-cell meta-sequencer with loop region and adjustable cell duration.
Trigger & Record Sources:
  • Trigger ON: Pads, Threshold, Sequencer, MIDI, Every-beat.
  • New Sample ON: Pads, Threshold, Sequencer, MIDI, Every-beat.
  • Stutter FROM: Pads, Sequencer.
Envelopes:
  • Grain Envelope: ADHSR (Attack, Decay, Hold, Sustain, Release).
  • Amplitude Envelope: ADSR.
  • Bézier-curve visualization with power-curve time mapping.
MIDI:
  • Pad triggering via configurable MIDI channel and base note.
  • Stutter key-tracking engine (quantized, channel-filtered).
  • Polyphonic release (holds until all keys lifted).
Workflow:
  • Full DAW parameter automation for all controls.
  • Preset management with save/load/browse.
  • Undo & Redo.
  • Input Quantization (defer triggers to beat grid).
  • Real-time zoomable oscilloscope with event indicators and input vs. output comparison.

at first glance is a better version of polyverse iWish. Hopefully a demo comes out

Somehow reminds me of Devine Machine (Steve Duda) Lucifer, but its been a while

I think the name is quite apropos, if you like stutter effects this is a bargain imo. :tu:

I've had it from the start, all the Audija stuff actually...

This was clearly made by someone who loves stutter effects and just made it because it would be cool and they wanted it for themselves. So yeah, superstutter for sure. :tu:

I am not sure how it works from that video - are there separate buffers that can be triggered independently? The 4 seq lanes, do they address the different buffers for example

I've asked Jan about the demo version and he told me there won't be a demo version for now. However, there is a 30 day money-back-no-questions-asked guarantee.
While I'm typically in the "no demo, no thanks" camp, based on my prior experience I'll probably give him the benefit of the doubt in this case, unless reading the manual will reveal some kind of show stopper. The evolution of Kickdrum is actually insane and came without any additional fees.

It does use a bunch of buffers pretty sure, not sure if it works exactly like that or not. You can have it work using different buffers +\- 4sec vs current (now) buffer. Something like that, I never actually RTFM. Heh. The pitch effects are really good imo. I think the seq just controls the pads, not sure.

thanks - I bought it - so cheap I thought I might as well. Will take a bit of time to understand how it works, but I can get good sounds from it so far. The buffers seem to give you snapshots of the incoming audio so you can switch between different parts of the audio - but in series, only one buffer at a time.
I think :)

First off I thought it would be like Polyverse iWish, and there might be some small overlap, but it is quite different in practise

If anyone has experience of Cache by Sinevibes I'd be grateful for a brief comparison between them.

Of course they are quite different, cache covers a lot of ground in stutter area (tho it doesn't actually have the specific stutter effect), but the random sequencer and pitch effects here are quite nice and handy. This has more triggering options and better control via the envelopes and whatnot.

If your interest in such effects is only modest, you can probably get by perfectly fine with cache. If you like options, this is a nice addition to your arsenal for sure. :tu:

my 2 cents...

Personally, I can't get enough of the stuff. Cache is far from the only thing I own in this arena.

It's 8 sample slots and every time we record a new sample the oldest one gets thrown out - the Sample Select allows to select between the current 8 held Samples, which gives us the ability to shuffle/reorder them live as new ones come in.
A demo could be nice OR a freeware - simply haven't reached a conclusion here. For now the reasoning was to give users plenty of time to test and if it doesn't fit - a refund is just one click. that seemed more efficient then spending another week on a demo + other factors that played a role.
