Bug Reports / Feedback / Support:

This Month's Synth:
From Tom: "It is designed to be compact, quick and easy to use, with a focus on sound quality and its own character. I imagine anyone familiar with VA synths should feel right at home with it. It intends to go a bit beyond typical VA synth capabilities though, offering more waveforms, some phase distortion/modulation capabilities, and flexible modulation."

There are two versions of the VST3 file in the download. Anyone know which one to use?

Post

In the readme it was stated that some people may experience graphical issues with the normal version, and using the "-cpu" one could solve that.

Post

Hopefully work stops kicking my ass so i can partake this month :help:

Following the AI trend, we now have a dedicated SLOP knob
https://soundcloud.com/vospi
I love music, worked with a number of music/rhythm/dance games like Pump It Up, In The Groove, Cytus and Deemo, and teach music production.

Post

Yes, but this has nothing to do with AI. It intruduces some analog beauty (randomness) to the sound.

Developer here, happy this got chosen for the challenge! :)

I uploaded version 0.10.0 last evening, lots of fixes and smaller improvements.
Big thanks to everyone who gave feedback and helped report issues so far, I appreciate it a lot.

I created a sticky topic on the itch page to compile some hints about non-obvious things that have come up already: Quick Guide
I hope that helps those that are only getting started :)

For those who are curious:

This is a passion project I started 4 years ago, ironically during a period when I thought "I should get more serious about making music but should really stick to one synth and learn it really well" ... not quite finding what I liked, making my own seemed more and more like a good way to procrastinate

AI wasn't around 4 years ago, and I'm quite happy with what I can do on my own, thanks to lots of transferable skills from game development. Having made everything myself (except the iPlug2 framework!) is what actually gives me the overview and ability to quickly fix things and iterate on the project.

So the slop knobs you find on the UI indeed only turn up some of the imperfections that create the sound I was looking for all this time. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, and have fun in this challenge!

Post

I haven't entered these in years but I am going to enter this month now that I've progressed some in the production department. Who knows, I might not even come in last. LMAO.

Well, I'm trying to do this but the latency on this thing playing leads is terrible. I may have to just abandon the whole thing.

Hmm I haven't heard of such a problem yet, I'd be happy to look into it.
Could you share some more info? Which system and DAW you're using, VST3 or CLAP, whether you're playing with controller or are observing this with recorded/programmed MIDI as well .. anything that could help me track it down :)
Feel free to contact me also via DM here or on the discord server, if you prefer!

Will be trying my hand at this one, this month. While it feels a bit rough-cut, Tom Trnk has been hanging out and I appreciate devs improving things as we work. Going with something higher energy despite grappling with the features.

Let me say I love the way this thing sounds and it's very easy to program. I am using Cubase 15 on Windows 11. I use an Arturia keyboard controller. I don't have this problem with any other vsti. However, when I use certain Fabfilter FX inserts, the latency with some presets is horrible as well. For whatever reason, some plugins do cause latency. With Fabfilter, they do say right on the plugin which presets do cause latency, so in those cases you need to expect it.

I have found a workaround. It's not ideal. I bring up another vsti and play the part with it and then move the MIDI onto the Deimos track that I want. So I will be able to finish this challenge.

Post

Okay, here goes. First the details

19 instances of Deimos

FX Plugins Used:

Voxengo Curve EQ
Steinberg Compressor
Steinberg Multiband Compressor
Steinberg Limiter
Steinberg Brickwall Limiter
Steinberg Reverence Reverb
Vladislav Limiter 6
Melda Productions MCompressor
Voxengo Span
Tal Reverb 2

The issues with latency appear to be patch specific so I have to do some more digging into that.

About the track. Tandy's Tribute refers to Richard Tandy of ELO. If you listen to the main chord progression it is the same one used in Evil Woman, one of my favorite ELO songs, with Richard Tandy being one of my all time favorite keyboard players.

Anyway, here it is, inspired by ELO and the master of synth leads, Richard Tandy.
