Hi. I'm new here, or maybe not... The thing is, I've been looking for information about Omnisphere 3 for a while now, there is quite a bit, but not exactly what I'm looking for. The idea is to get version 2 an then upgrade to 3. You know, get version 2, register, update, etc... What happens when you format your hard drive (something completely common now a days) and you need to reinstall everything again. Do you have to go through the nightmare of re-registering, updating, etc... from version 2? Or do I have version 3 permanently, even with the version 2 USB. Also, from what I've read, you can only reinstall it from scratch up to three times (any version). After that, you have to pay a "modest" price for something that's supposed to be yours? Seriously? Is this a joke from past versions? Or is it real now in the 21st century?
I contacted Spectrasonics with this same question, and they replied, "Why don't you just buy Omnisphere 3? :)"
Thanks, everyone.

Upgrades are just that. If you want the full new version as they say, just buy it.
Look at the pricing, you are getting a price break on the upgrade.

And yes pretty sure you need to go through all the pain to register and reinstall.

Consider cloning your hard drive to SSD, then you can keep what you have as is.
Then either upgrade your v2 to v3, or just buy the new full version.

My computer is so old (win10) it doesn't meet the minimal specs for Omni3, so I'm stuck there for now.

Ok, thanks a lot. You've been more helpful in one minute than Spectrasonics entire technical support has been in a long time. I really appreciate it.

I've owned Omnisphere 2 and 3 retail box (with the USB), but I've never used the USB. I just registered the license and dowloaded the latest version from Spectrasonics.

If you upgrade your license to v3, and then format your drive, I can't imagine a situation other than just downloading and installing v3.

I've been trying to get into Omnisphere for years, but every time I do, I run into more and more problems that I didnt even know before. So I'll probably pre-order Zebra3 and forget about all the hassles, including the exorbitant price and the measly three installation attempts. I know they're not the same kind of synth, but for someone who's mainly looking for presets, one is as good as the other. Thanks to both of you for replying

Zebra and Omnisphere are night an day.
1st the palette of sound, the amount of preset, the public target, synthesis.

Zebra do not have a large amount of preset, sample, granular, large choice of fx, layers, arp/seq.
Like I said night and day.

The support give you he right answer, it's a nonsense to buy v2 and then upgrade to v3.
The grace period is over. It won't be for free.

There is no hassle if you actually buy the version 3 of Omnisphere properly

The issue is you want to buy someone else's license of version 2 and then try to upgrade that. While I always appreciate trying to save money, in this case your efforts to save a few bucks are also what is causing your issues, not Spectrasonics

If you really are all about presets there is nothing better than Omnisphere as that will give you more presets than anything else on the market. So just buy version 3 of Omnisphere

Please do the community a favor and stop trashing Spectrasonics because you don't want want to buy their current product

My intention was not to buy anyone's license. I wanted to buy the official version 2, the boxed version with a USB drive "properly", from an official store. I repeat, from an official store. It's not that complicated to understand, others understood it immediately. Probably is the first time you've heard Omnisphere is too expensive, right?, and probably haven't heard either that they only let you install it, after formatting, three times. I'm here to ask questions, not to cheat. I don't know how old are you or how long you've been doing this, I really don't give a f..k, but I've been doing this long enough to dont let anybody tell me what can I or can't say. This is a place to share opinions, discuss topics, and ask questions, does it sounds familiar to you? If you don't like this one or don't understand what I'm talking about, go somewere else, there are plenty of places for people like you, but try not to censor anybody, we're in the 21st century.

I've just thought about it, you'll see how some jumps in to give lessons without having a clue about anything we're talking about. Why is it that, pro audio forums are full of smartasses? In fact, I'm going to do the community a better favor, as you asked me for: I'm leaving here and going to another forum where nobody tries to tell me what I can or can't say.

In fact, I was finally planning to buy Zebra and Omnisphere, but thanks to your kind comment, Spectrasonics has lost another customer. Congratulations. Happy Christmas and a happy new year to you too.

Where exactly did you say that were going to buy version 2 boxed from an authorized dealer? Oh that's right you didn't.
Probably is the first time you've heard Omnisphere is too expensive, right?, and probably haven't heard either that they only let you install it, after formatting, three times. I'm here to ask questions, not to cheat.
Only problem is I don't think Omnisphere 1, 2, or 3 was to expensive. I think you get what you pay for, and I got them in day one

You can also install it on as many computers as you own. I have it installed on 4 computers, and I have formatted them multiple times and installed new hard drives. It's never an issue
I don't know how old are you or how long you've been doing this, I really don't give a f..k, but I've been doing this long enough to dont let anybody tell me what can I or can't say.
Yey you have no issues telling others what to do or say

I also never told you what to do or say. You can do what you want. Your entire issue is that you don't want to actually but Omnisphere 3 in a normal legitimate way and that you have a misunderstanding of how it all works
This is a place to share opinions, discuss topics, and ask questions, does it sounds familiar to you?
Sure and yet when I did exactly that, you threw a temper tantrum.

My opinion on this topic is you should just buy version 3 outright, and that any issues you have that you are blaming Spectrasonics for is a direct result of you not doing that. That you are doing the community a disservice by blaming Spectrasonics for your desire to not buy the current product

@Ivybirds my USB copy of Omnisphere 2 was $479 and they are very strict with pricing.

If you consider that not expensive then we have different scales of reality. LOL

I never said it wasn't expensive, I said it wasn't "too expensive" which is also what was said that I was replying to

You obviously purchased it, so you didn't find it too expensive either

I don't know, dude, it seems just as legitimate as the one you might have. What do you think?
