Hi all. I’ve released an early free/open-source VST3 instrument called Guitar AG.

It’s a physical-modeled electric guitar, not sample-based. The goal is clean DI-style guitar tone for use with external amp sims, with MPE support, guitar-like six-string allocation, hammer-on/pull-off/tapping interpretation, and a simple amp-feedback model.

Direct downloads:

Windows VST3:
Download Guitar AG v0.2.6 for Windows (https://github.com/ArneGleason/guitar-ag/releases/download/v0.2.6/GuitarAG-v0.2.6-Windows-vst3.zip)

macOS VST3:
Download Guitar AG v0.2.6 for macOS (https://github.com/ArneGleason/guitar-ag/releases/download/v0.2.6/GuitarAG-v0.2.6-macOS-vst3.zip)

No installer yet. Unzip it, put the .vst3 in your normal VST3 folder, then rescan plugins in your DAW.

I’d be grateful for feedback from anyone interested in guitar plugins, physical modeling, or MIDI guitar composition. Most useful would be: does it load, does it feel useful through an amp sim, and what sounds least guitar-like?

It’s early/experimental, but usable enough now that I’d love a few outside ears.

Besides not being Intel 64bit compatible, Tahoe 26.4.1 throws up a warning prompt that the plugin is a potential scam while using a Terminal command to get the OS to ignore the plugs lack of credentials. First time I've ever encountered that prompt after authorizing dozens of unsigned plugs with Terminal.

Achichect shows this:

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry not to have done a build for Intel Macs. Luckily with the source code available and all you can inspect the source and build it if you are concerned there's something amiss and truly interested in a physically modeled e-guitar VST instrument.

It works with Cakewalk.
The sound is guitar-like.
With Cakes TH3, amp and effects, half of tested presets make the sound brake up. Like overdrive that's distorting at the high frequencies.
I didn't go deep so it's possible that one or more of the settings could cure it.
Clearly useful in some situations i think.

Excellent feedback. My guess is the “sound break up” is down to the thing is currently very CPU-intensive and can easily overwhelm a system, especially if you dial up the amp feedback control. I need tospend some on optimizing the physical model. As it is running now it uses way more cpu than much more realistic physically modeled instruments like the Swam and Pianoteq stuff. Fun thing to work on though - something I want for my own use and thought it would be good to get feedback on.
