How many here have made an U-turn to get rid of GAS by sticking to only DAW stock synths?

Not me. I’m not a fan of how most of Bitwig’s synths sound. Their FM ones are pretty cool, though

How many licks DOES it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop?

The world may never know. AFAIK G.A.S. has no cure. :D

I still use stock plugins where it makes sense, but really the best solution to GAS is either self-control, or just accepting that sometimes it's worth the money to play around with something new and fun.

Me

I effectively rely on what is in Reason. Much easier seeing Europa etc are such strong devices but still, GAS is irrespective of what one has - more about the gaping hole in one's soul or sole. I beat that already which makes settling & committing to the Real Work anywhere so much easier.

Reason seems like it would be harder because of the thousand rack instruments and extensions calling to you hehe

The DAW's I use don't have stock synths. That said, I use Luna Pro's stock EQ, compressors, and tapes almost exclusively now.

Not me, I keep using third party tools (both instruments and effects), but I slowed down my purchases once I collected enough plugins. Nowadays, a new plugin has to bring something special to the table (a specific tone, some unique features…). I have my go-to plugins, so any new plugin must fill a specific niche… it’s not easy to excite me nowadays.

That takes care of software gas; speaking of hardware, prices/features/availability/need for space are taking care of that gas as well. I’m still getting a few things here and there (and I’m into diy), but it’s a rather quiet moment for me right now…

I ask myself if a new tool actually matters in my current setup, but the answer is often negative, so no purchase for ne..

Reaper, so my answer is: nope.
ABX is enemy to GAS

Aside from quality, instruments and effects included in DAW can get discontinued or become obsolete without warning, and I avoid them entirely. Using 3rd party plugins would allow me to switch DAWs and keep my familiar tools as well.

FL Studio has Harmor, Sytrus and Kepler Exo which all sound great. Unfortunately Harmor has a UI only a mother could love. Kepler Exo is pretty much the ultimate Juno inspired synth, adding a second DCO and LFO, cross mod, filter FM, phase slider for the sub osc and other stuff. But in FL Studio the parameter values are displayed in a tiny window at the top of the screen instead of on the actual synth, which for me is a deal breaker.

I'd prefer DAWs come with no instrument or FX and a lower price. I prefer to use the instruments and FXs I like.
