Hello !
The "search" function is quite crappy here at kvr ... :? I never managed to find anything using it !
Btw I'm searching for an old thread that was talking about the most important artists/albums for the history of electronic music (artists such as front 242, vince clarke ...)
As I am in my "80's music was not so bad" period (especially the beginning of the 80's with the first new wave albums) I was expecting to find in this thread some good suggestions ... but I can't find it

Post

I don't know about that thread.

but for me, these albums from the 80's are 100% recommendable:

FRONT 242:
Front By Front
Official Version

NITZER EBB:
Belief

SKINNY PUPPY:
Bites
Vivisect Vi

LEGENDARY PINK DOTS:
the tower
asylum
crushed velvet apocalypse

THE KLINIK:
face to face

DAF:
alles ist gut
für immer

DEPECHE MODE:
construction time again
music for the masses

LEATHER STRIP:
pleasure of penetration (from 1990 but oh well)

CABARET VOLTAIRE:
micro-phonies

FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY:
gashed senses and crossfire

...

All kinds of great 80's music was almost completely under the radar... I'll second Legendary Pink Dots (though they were'nt/aren't purely electronic), less for the vinyl/cd releases and more for the Staalplaat and Jarmusic cassettes if you can track them down (though some have been reissued on CD from time to time). In terms of purely electronic stuff, I'd recommend MB (particularly around 1983-84), Whitehouse, Consumer Electronics, Ramleh (pre-1985), Bene Gesserit, Nails ov Christ, Esplendor Geometrico (the 1980-82 period), Portion Control (the 1980-83 period - they were widely ripped off by Skinny Puppy most notably), Pacific 231, Ankh, Giancarlo Toniutti, Sutcliffe Jugend, Konstruktivits, Coil, Unkommuniti (who later spawned Stereolab, oddly enough)... dig deep and there's all sorts of hidden history in those years.

There was this thread on electronic/musique concrete, but i'm not sure that's quite what you're after. Still worth checking out the recommendations though.

Thank you for your suggestions :)
I'm not a specialist of this era but I'm surprised you didn't recommend "fade to grey" from visage. I just purchased the vinyl :D The (famous) title song is possibly the best new-wave song I've ever heard and the rest of the album is quite wonderful, especially when you consider it was released in 1981.
I also own the first album from Yellow Magic Orchestra (released in 1978) and I think it is also quite important for the history of electronic music (especially the "computer game" song)

Mr Arkadin : thx for the link, this is not the thread I'm looking at but it is interesting anyway :)

I got it !

Fortunately I mailed this link to my brother that found it in his mailbox ...
I searched on kvr for "electronic history" in the "Everything else" forum, and I didn't find it
