You are right about the bass being the only instrument not feeding into the reverb bus; it was as dry as a bone.Ciderwell wrote: Sun May 03, 2026 7:07 pm I too thought the bass was slightly off, but deliberately, so as to give a grungyness to the song. Maybe because the bass is the only instrument without reverb that makes it the dominant sound and more noticed by a discerning ear. I'm sure if it were tuned into a conventional mode it was cease to be effective.
I liked it.
I have a six-string bass guitar capable of reaching much lower notes which I could have put into service on the track instead, but I liked the tone I was getting from the four-string bass that I was already using, and that meant being more selective about the notes I wanted to hear played. The organ can play some impressively low bass notes, too, but often I prefer to hear that buzzy/twangy sound of the electric bass guitar.
I've read articles describing how important it is to develop one's "own sound" and to avoid sounding too much like everyone else, and I try to keep that in mind, too. I endeavor to create music that sounds interesting, at least to my ears, but as the saying goes, "there's no accounting for taste". I just hope that the art I create is ultimately worthy of at least a second listening.
Thank you for listening!
Cheers.
