Hi Everybody, as of late I started practicing songwriting again to overcome a songwriting blockage (my former songwriting prof used to tell "there's no blockage just no motiviation").
This led me to look out for ways to shake up my process and look out for new methods and excercises and share some i use now.

So here are my current ones:

1. chose a random word and set a 3,5 min timer and write as many related words that coe in mind to it

2. use the same word and write as many rhymes for 3,5 min as i can

3. use the same word and sensewrite for 3,5 min

4. Improvise for at least 3-5 min with my eyes closed on my guitar or piano with my voice and record it.

I definetely know some more (opposite writing, rewriting famous songs or poems, writing without a specific letter), but these are my current go-to ones.
But I'd love to see what are your favourite songwriting excercises :)

My favorite is the classic vowel-based approach. At the first stage you're only allowed to sing vowels, at the second stage you write lyrics which feature and emphasize those vowels.
