Same for me. It's good knowing that I can switch to other DAWs at any given time, just in case. I don't like being locked in, that's already an issue with the OS.DiodeLadder wrote: Mon May 04, 2026 9:08 am Using 3rd party plugins would allow me to switch DAWs and keep my familiar tools as well.
How many here have made an U-turn to get rid of GAS by sticking to only DAW stock synths?

Nope, like I said, I beat that debilitating feartasy: "When I get a Jupiter 8 or Andromeda or... I will be able to be good."rlared wrote: Sun May 03, 2026 10:25 pmReason seems like it would be harder because of the thousand rack instruments and extensions calling to you heheBenedict wrote: Sun May 03, 2026 10:09 pm Me
I effectively rely on what is in Reason. Much easier seeing Europa etc are such strong devices but still, GAS is irrespective of what one has - more about the gaping hole in one's soul or sole. I beat that already, which makes settling & committing to the Real Work anywhere so much easier.

I know what I want, I know how to get there, AND I know how to settle with what I have got 'on tape'. This lets me build & grow rather than keep undercutting myself.
Once you know your craft and how things really work (not at the maths but practically) a compressor is a compressor is a compressor. Any well-designed compressor will do the job. I look at what comes out and try a small percentage. Most are tossed out within an hour (tops) as once I understand what they do (not to mention all the poor design decisions) there is no sense to cluttering my space when M-Class or AdHd can do that already.
GAS is quite simply avoidance. If your pal came over and told you all the ways they were avoiding making music, how would you respond? Then that is how you need to walk.

It's actually easy to defeat GAS with quality requirements. This alone defeats 99 % of all stock and third-party plugins, even entire brands. The vast majority of plugins suck. Run some test tones through effects. Run synths in parallel with and without oversampling. Watch the occuring aliasing and intermodulation distortion and cramped filters and automation noise etc in a spectrum analyzer. Throw away everything that crosses the line.

As a Ableton Live user I have always to decide if the plugin actually warrants having a floating window in the UI, i don't love floating windows, I like the stock effects because their GUI is simple and doesn't get in the way, I don't have to keep openning/closing windows, and some of them have nice UI in Push.
I do use quite a few plugins but I try to keep them, at a minimum.

I don't just use the plugins that come with Waveform 13, but I also don't have GAS. When I first started to create music I never had 50 plus synths, so no need to require that now. I make use of what I have now and quite happy to stay that way.

I rotate between a few non-DAW plugins for a few months, work fine, same reverb like Raum, could get lots of mileage from that reverb plugin.

And that's even a DAW that has better-than-average stock synths.

As a Reaper user... no, not sure I could do that
(though I have actually made complete ambient/drone tracks using just reasynth
