Hello everyone,I’m a composer with a passion for programming and recently decided to create a series of VSTs from my personal collection of instruments. I just released my second plugin: BRIAR Music Box.
The music box plays a central role in my own compositions. I often layer it with piano, which instantly creates a magical atmosphere. It was also the first instrument I ever tried to sample, as recording a real programmable music box in perfect timing is extremely difficult.
This plugin is based on samples of a punch-card music box, recorded using high-end Schoeps microphones. I recorded 27 samples for each note, creating a highly realistic sound that often fools even me into thinking I’m listening to a real music box.
Optional mechanical noises such as cranking and motor sounds further enhance the illusion of a real instrument.
An additional “Darkness” layer, sampled from a dulcitone (an antique, celesta-like instrument with a bell-like sound), allows you to create a fuller tone.
27 presets are included, ranging from clean and delicate sounds to antique, detuned and broken music boxes, as well as ambient and cinematic textures.
As with all my instruments, the interface is inspired by old fairytale books with the "book cover" presenting four of the most important controls and the preset browser. If you want to control all details, you can "open the book" by clicking on the gear icon in the bottom right corner.
