How many here have made an U-turn to get rid of GAS by sticking to only DAW stock synths?

Has ES2 UI been revamped since 1990 ? :D

There are tools I'd likely be okay going to stock versions of, like compressors/limiters or EQs, but probably not synths. Cubase's Retrologue is pretty good, as are Ableton's stock devices, but I would find it a bit hard to do without Diva or Korg Multi/poly or Pigments.

My DAW doesnt come with any stock synths. So I have to use third party synth plugins
MMPR Technologies — VST3 synths and sample packs

I do use quite a few plugins but I try to keep them, at a minimum.
For me I have them opening on the second screen  but yeah

Yeah, if all I had were Alchemy, Logic's drums and drum synth, and sample libraries, I could get by just fine. Alchemy, especially, is a really deep hybrid synth/sampler, and I'm always astonished at its deep library when I rotate through my synths and return to it. Sculpture is wonderfully weird, but I don't find myself using it much. The highly powerful drum synthesizer sounds great and is in my category of "I really should take the time to use this more but..." it's got one of the ugliest guis around (Ultrabeat).

Otherwise, I admit, the armada has long since left the harbor, and I would suffer from losing Kontakt's libraries, and different capabilities of various other synths and hybrids, such as Halion, MDrummer, MXXX, and some of NI's Reaktor synths. I manage GAS only with the help of a rigid annual budget.

Quick answer, NO. Next question is, "Who has continued to use it since 1990?" Seems like it's the caboose on the train of EDM sound makers.

I used it just today…

It was called "IDM" back then. Not EDM.

And from all of the import Future Music and Sound on Sound issues I used to get, so many people used ES2!

I personally spent a couple of thousands on Emagic (and then Apple) Logic upgrades before they went appstore.

I still have the rare Emagic Xtreme HipHop sample cd even though some of the folders are corrupted :( A few of the sounds made it into stock "Apple Loops" later, but a lot are lost forever except for what I've got, I think (edit: I guess not lost forever, just found a shop selling it as a download).
REAPER + Davinci Resolve Pro on Manjaro KDE. Neve 88m. Focusrite 18i20 2nd gen. Neumann NDH30 headphones. Mics: Telefunken TF39, AT4050, Miktek C7e, EV RE-15. VSTs: u-he Hive 2, F'em, Renoise Redux, Apisonic Speedrum 2.

Well, I'm glad to see it's still alive!

Thanks for the history lesson! What did "IDM" stand for?

"Intelligent" Dance Music! Interesting.
I guess that's a far cry from my West Virginia cousin doing HDM--Hillbilly Dance Music--done with just a banjo and a good kick drum. That's how he has dealt with GAS.
