Got it in. I´ve set it up super provisoric. ( pic below)

Not played so far with any MPE sounds/setup. I really hate to go outside of GP (host).
I`ll go DAW when i found some nice MPE sounds. But so far i just wanted to get a feel for the Linnstrument200.

What can i say ? Mixed feelings.
- turns out to go outside of GP, and loading a DAW is a major setback for me. GP is effectivly not MPE capable. Some DIY workaround might go. I`ve not figured it out so far (but i have an idea).
- doing some playing tests, i don`t think the after pressure part will be that important for me. It will really require to have/find the right sounds. I`ve not gotten that far.

- tough, i like to have an alternative to play rather than just always playing a "keyboard". It`s a nice alternative to Piano keys.
- as such, it`s small and flexible to place somewhere in a different corner in my studio/apartment. This adds to it.
- and fact is, i just make a different music using the Linnstrument.
- i enjoy it to play it.

- these points will have me keep it. For what it adds to me from an MPE view alone, that`d be a tough call financial wise.
- I think MPE is just not important for me. To jam with faders gives me soundwise and expression wise more !
- Yet, i`ve NOT played any Cello or so. Need to lock free my SWAM strings on this Mac.

So my main point with the Linn:
- i like to play it when i play it
- i like to have it as an alternative play controller vs. piano keys !

- i might get me an Osmose 61 CE as well. Might change plans, and just might switch my 2nd (never finished) setup into a handplay- keyboard station also
- placing my Linnstrument with a later upcoming Osmose 61 CE there. "There, then", both always in place at the same time. Everything else just placed around these two.

my super provisoric setup with the Linnstrument for now:

Sounds like your needs are met here with Linnstrument, but Push 3 is actually very nice to use with Bitwig. I wasn't sure if it would be worthwhile without Ableton, but having used it now I can say it's a very versatile piece of kit in addition to having nice MPE pads.

I can`t afford a Haken.

And: the playing style shown there is exactly not how i play.
It`s wonderful to listen to. It is very tempting to have that.
But i have to face it now, it`s just not how i play.
.....it would be a few evenings in the year at best.

AND: i use to spread my playing over several octaves when i play arpeggiated.
The Linnstrument has exactly there some advantages vs. that style of playing.

Definitly a dream to have a Haken ! No doubt.

But then, glad i have now at least a Linnstrument ;)

i much thought about a Push 3. I just can`t integrate that form factor good into my setup size wise. And it`s not triggering me that much as a "keybed controller" to play synths. (i had a push 2)

Yes, Linnstrument is for me right now a ideal keyboard alternative.

I’d love a Continuum, but holy crap, their prices are insane.

I agree that it’s an expensive piece of gear, and I really wish that it was more affordable. It provides a playing experience, unlike anything else that I’ve personally tried. I first saw one in the early 2000’s, being used as a controller for the Kyma sound design system.

I’m sure that the Continuum has probably gone through some major design changes since then. But I did a decent inspection of the build quality, including the materials used, and its manufacturing. And as far as I could tell, they didn’t cut any corners back then.

The price makes more sense when you take all of that into consideration, in combination with the precision ribbon controller and sound engine. But there’s no getting around the fact that it’s a luxury item at the end of the day. I tend to view it more as a hand crafted, boutique quality instrument, much like a custom guitar.

Yeah, that makes sense, but not for me. Even when I had a steady music gig, only a small percentage of what was required used MPE at all, and since then, all my MPE use is just my personal music, and I honestly really like my Rise.

Maybe one day. Sometimes I see my hardware synthesizers as mostly unnecessary, and a studio full of cool controllers would be more useful, but that day isn’t today.
