If you’ve ever used another DAW like Ableton or Logic. It works similar to that. Where the PR switches to a drum view. It shows you the drum names/sample name as opposed to a regular piano roll note view. I’m not sure if that’s what you are asking.Passante wrote: Mon May 11, 2026 6:07 pm Does Reason have a dedicate Drum Editor? Or is just using the Piano Roll?

It's not about quantity. NN-XT is a good sampler for it's time, but that time has long since passed. I don't see anyone targeting it to make great sampled instruments. And with Native Instruments kicking the bucket, a more modern NN-XT (and a solid bread and butter sound library!) wouldn't be a bad idea to make many current users more happy and to attract new users. If I play anything keys or acoustic instruments, including drums, I'm just not reaching for NN-XT and it's ancient library, which means one foot already out of Reason from the getgo. And then the daw aspects aren't there, so there goes the other foot.jens wrote: Wed Apr 08, 2026 4:11 pm A new sampler? How many samplers do you need? No other DAW has as many samplers as Reason.
Some may disagree, but if you ask me, Reason is too heavily weighted toward assembling electronic music, sorely lacking in sampled acoustic instruments and means to effectively play them. There isn't even a basic velocity curve editor built in, much less other things needed for really dialing in playing response for keys and drums. Personally, I want a good mix of both acoustic and electronic instruments, but if Reason is involved, it's a rack for light cpu synths only running in Reaper. But between U-he and Arturia synths, I'm rarely opening Reason anymore for even synths.

At the time of versions 11 & 12, Reason was « The Rack ». They even introduced the « rack version » of channel strip FX of the « ssl ».Schrödinger's Cat wrote: Mon May 11, 2026 6:03 pm For rack users, the only relevant changes are the new RV-9 reverb, the additional factory sounds, improved tempo detection in the browser and the dark skin (can only be seen in minor places like the browser, device palette or the options window).
I agree that there have been more exciting upgrades for Rack users than Reason 14.
13 was less rack oriented but 2 new devices could have appeal to RRP users.
Now 14 is just DAW oriented. They didn’t bother to have the new « track panel » for RRP meaning the « new way of creating and connecting » devices isn’t available. Only old school cabling ! It means a « less new Reason than Reason ».
Perhaps RRP hasn’t reach the target audiance

Reason Crashed when I tried to open a vst gui with this message ""Reason just recovered from a hardware exception - you can continue running but we recommend that you save all the songs and restart Reason"
Clicking on ok in that error window is just making it pop up again so it would not be possible to save anything.

In my experience, if you spam the enter key to dismiss that dialog while also rapidly clicking on the X in the corner of the application window to close it, you'll eventually succeed in triggering a save dialog.D-Fusion wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 10:42 am Reason Crashed when I tried to open a vst gui with this message ""Reason just recovered from a hardware exception - you can continue running but we recommend that you save all the songs and restart Reason"

Because that really would make very little sense, if any at all.SebAV wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 6:37 am +They didn’t bother to have the new « track panel » for RRP meaning the « new way of creating and connecting » devices isn’t available.

"REASON 14 installation failed ... please contact the developer ... " wormhole or black hole?

Well, reason is my main host and I'm making indie-rock/-pop and - drums aside - as such I have a very limited interest in software-instruments - but when it comes to it, conventional sample-libraries are the least I would have any interest or use for whatsoever - so there's that. (Personally I typically much rather prefer to record real instruments instead.)sellyoursoul wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 2:33 am Some may disagree, but if you ask me, Reason is too heavily weighted toward assembling electronic music, sorely lacking in sampled acoustic instruments and means to effectively play them. For drums I use Superior Drummer 3 and there is a zero point zero chance that a conventional sampler would ever cut it for me.
Not sure what you mean with velocity curve editor though in regards to samplers tbh
- I only know it as a setting for MIDI-controllers and for synth parameter control (for filters and such) - what exactly would a velocity curve editor do in a multi-gig sample-library?
When it comes to emulating acoustic instruments, the Reason crew obviously prefers physical modelling rather that huge sample libraries these days by the way. If the latter is your thing and you want to use Reason as your DAW then I'd much rather recommend looking at 3rd party plugins instead - plenty to choose from. By I have a feeling Reason isn't really for you either way.

I tend to agree - the only fault I see this time is the changed track-header... I kind of hope they aren't serious.careyletendre wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 12:59 pm This is the best update since merging Reason and Record.

The track panel is a simplified view of the rack for a track (which is exactely what an instance of the RRP is) and it eases the view of what’s in a track (there’s no navigator panel in the RRP neither) and it eases adding devices. So it totally makes sense to have it also in the RRP.

They could also apply this new design with the dark mixer to the rack mixers. Maybe a small color selection menu would be nice, where you could choose between dark and white—or even other colors—to better distinguish the devices from one another. The same goes for this new reverb, the glaring white is really a strain on the eyes at night.
That would also go well with other devices (just imagine a Subtractor in gray or a Malström in black).
