But... this Limiter randomly(?) distorts at the moment. It seems it is being worked.legendCNCD wrote: Sun May 10, 2026 10:35 am Really liking AL-1, the opportunistic release curve and optimizer are nice. Then again, I am not driving it much, as it is not needed on the tracks I tested.

I'm kind of excited about this (the Tone Projects one). I'm a huge fan of Tone Project and Rune and what he's trying to do although I don't find myself using all their tools. Unisum is incredible, Kelvin I use and like but feel there's quite a narrow sweet spot but I've never quite got Basslane or Michaelangelo even though I desperately want to like them and have demoed several times over the years.
I'm going to say up front that I've no problem with my current limiting (pro l2 and a free one called loudmax) but I'm going to definitely try this new out one and see if it's a change I want to make.

Tone Projects makes some pretty great tools. Unisum is an excellent compressor (especially in M/S where it sits in my mastering chain), and Michelangelo fights it out with SlickEQ as my mastering 'sweetening' EQ.
Can't say I've ever been blown away by a limiter, the big players all seem fairly similar in the end. Ozone Maximizer and Pro L-2 both do the job pretty efficiently, and Limitless when band-specific tweaking is needed. Interested to see if this one brings anything unique to the table.
The one thing I really appreciate in limiters is metering, and TP hasn't really done anything innovative in that area to date, so hopefully this one breaks the mold. When we get a chance to put hands on it, I'll definitely gun it out against the AL-1 (not demo'd this one yet either) and my other current limiters to see if either earns a spot in the lineup.

TP Limiter comes into a nice timeframe, where I am battling with DnB tracks that have a lot of dynamics and would not want the bass to drop when limit hits.. its a battlefield, not a love one though.
Will have to test it of course!

Ok, looks like the cat's out of the bag as apparently there was a bunch of marketing emails sent out to customers. Yes, the limiter some of us here were hinting at quite some time ago, is just around the corner. Sorry for the hyping so early, we really thought it'd be out any day back then and considering the questions in this thread, some of us thought it'd be unwise to splurge your hard earned cash on something else when it's just about to be dunked on. That includes my own darling, my priceless dutch plonker. Well, now it truly IS getting dunked on.
The only hint I can give is this: Think about Tone Projects Unisum, the ultra-transparent and super flexible mastering compressor. It was released over 6 years ago and it has not been bested yet in my opinion.
Now imagine a new limiter that has absolutely no equal when it comes to flexibility. Also imagine a super powered developer, Rune with 6 additional years of coding experience and many new ground breaking plugins under his belt. Collaborating with a superbly talented mastering engineer with impeccable taste, pulling the strings, nitpicking absolutely every damn detail.. and I do mean every detail. Heck, it's not often I'm not the nitpickiest, new feature demanding lunatic among the testing group.
Best of all, it's all purely self-serving. This is a person who selfishly wanted to build the ultimate tool for themselves! They just happened to be in a nice enough mood that day to share it with the rest of the world.
(Macc, if you are reading this you know I jest! I jest!!! .. maybe.
).
Yeah, consider me highly biased, so don't take my words without a ton of salt. I absolutely adore Tone Projects as a whole. The developer is an amazingly talented dude and such a gem of a person.
Bob Macciochi is an amazing mastering engineer and a really fun dude with boots firmly on the ground.
How can you not love that developer combo? It's just awesome! Once the demo is out, go download it and hear for yourself.
DISCLOSURE: I'm beta testing for Rune since forever, way before even Tone Projects existed. Only compensation being the privilege of getting ultra cool tools to use early and a simple NFR license. That's it.

I don’t get why they keep it a secret from customers, maybe if they know they might take it into account when considering something else. Though personally, I have no problem owning multiple options.
I may bitch at them about that actually.

They don't. The email should have gone out to everybody subscribed to their newsletter (and probably all customers). Probably some glitch in their system.pekbro wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 7:52 pm I don’t get why they keep it a secret from customers, maybe if they know they might take it into account when considering something else. Of all of Tone Projects stuff it's Unisum which is easily my favourite as imho it's head and shoulders above everything else. Because not only is it incredibly flexible with far more control than I'd ever need but, and here's the thing, when you put it on just about anything in default mode it will make it sound better, more polished, more finished, more controlled, more professional.bmanic wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 5:32 pm The only hint I can give is this: Think about Tone Projects Unisum, the ultra-transparent and super flexible mastering compressor. That's what I love about Unisum, yes tweak away to your heart's content if you like but out of the box it sounds fantastic.
If the limiter carries the same DNA then that's pretty exciting.

Ah man, I take it as a compliment. Usually, problems happen down the line because of production decisions and spaghetti code caused by crunch time. That eventually comes back to the users as increased CPU and/or memory usage. Particularly, I’m allergic to high CPU usage.pekbro wrote: Sun May 10, 2026 8:04 pm Pulsar modular should hire Hakan to do their math for them, then they could have some decent efficiency probably.
