Designed a VST3 editor for the SE-02. Windows 10/11.
Couldn’t get the official editor working in my DAW for years. Eventually gave up and used MIDI CCs.
Finally just designed my own.
SE-02 Unofficial Editor
• 63 CC parameters, organized by section
• Real DAW automation lanes
• Patch library with categories and search
• SysEx pull from hardware
• A/B snapshots with morph
• Init and weighted randomizer
• Resizable 50% to 300%
Roland never published a full sysex spec so 14 parameters can’t be read back. No bulk preset dump via the editor.
Tested in Ableton, Bitwig, Cubase, Reaper, Waveform. Works under Windows 11 MIDI 2.0.
Launch price $5 for the first week, then $15.

One more day for the launch price of $5!
------------
What's New in 1.01?
Import Roland PRM patch files: use the Import button to load .prm files from the SE-02's native format alongside the existing .json format; supports multi-select.
TRANSPOSE and performance controls now survive DAW project reload: OCT, TRANS, BEND, MOD, VOLUME, and other patch-global settings are correctly restored when you reopen a saved project in any supported DAW.
HOLD always loads off: the sustain control no longer latches on when a project opens.
Snap buttons tint amber during PULL: visual feedback while a sync is in progress.
Help updated: clearer explanation of which parameters PULL reads from hardware and which it doesn't; new troubleshooting entries for DAW automation MIDI and Windows 11 MIDI Services.

Quick note: the SE-02 intro period has ended so it’s now priced at its regular $15.

Thanks!colibri wrote: Mon May 11, 2026 4:03 pm I got my copy and can highly recommend it. Finally a complete and slick editor!
I have a few small enhancements planned for it (along with any bugs identified), including MIDI Thru and being able to export .prm files, not just read them. No promised timelines.

Yes! once I buy a Mac
Hoping for June to get one and start working on it asap thereafter (and get the Apple dev cert when purchase gets closer).
I’ll start with the se-02 unofficial and then my other forthcoming unofficial editors (e7, OB-6, and a few others) until I get them in sync. Also want to get the standalone versions shipped own the road, as well. TBD if that happens before or after Mac - just depends on time.

Added this to my software editors. This one is by far the best for controlling the SE-02 from a DAW. It works super smooth, and even modulating a couple of parameters with fast rate LFO's via Bitwigs mod system, is super stable. Keep up the good work @vitocorleone123

That sounds promising. I'll be curious to know how well it works in Bitwig. I've had only partial success with both the official (but abandoned?) plugin as well as this alternative one I tried, https://se-02-midi-editor-controller.jimdofree.com/. I recall having issues with MIDI only working in one direction. Been a while since I've tried, but I'd like to try again. Looking forward to trying your solution.vitocorleone123 wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 4:21 amYes! once I buy a Mac

Works great in Bigwig on my PC. That’s my main DAW. I also “smoke test” 50-100 cases by hand for each of: Ableton, Reaper, Cubase, Studio One and Waveform. Standalone version will add another column to the spreadsheet. That’s one reason these take a minute to get out the door.Naenyn wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 9:20 pmThat sounds promising. That, and I’m also making these for myself, and I have high standards.

Awesome!
Well, when the time comes, I'd be happy to help test on macOS if needed.

Thanks SO much for giving this one a go.solidtrax wrote: Thu May 14, 2026 8:29 pm Added this to my software editors. This one is by far the best for controlling the SE-02 from a DAW. After personally struggling with the official one(s) for so many years, it's nice to finally have one I enjoy using for myself. And with the added benefit of being able to continue making improvements!
For all the Mac users, I wish I already had one, but not having one has helped me focus on starting a small catalog of editors rather than splitting as much time to building and testing across platforms. I really do plan to get a Mac - I think there's an Apple "education sale" starting in June.

(sorry - still no Mac version yet)
What's New in 1.0.2?
MIDI Thru: a new gear-menu submenu forwards an external MIDI input device (a USB keyboard, a hardware sequencer) through the editor to the SE-02. Notes, pitch bend, aftertouch, program change, and bank select are all supported. Useful for playing the synth while the editor stays connected.
Aftertouch and other host MIDI now reach the SE-02 with the editor loaded: fixes a long-standing issue where some hosts (Bitwig in particular) silently blocked aftertouch on tracks where the editor was active. As a side effect of the fix, DAW MIDI monitors on the editor's track no longer show the editor's outgoing CCs; hardware still receives every CC the editor sends.
Library Import and Export remember the last-used folder for each direction, so the file picker no longer always opens to Documents.
Version stamp in the header next to the EDITOR label, so screenshots in bug reports carry the version.
Correct version reported to hosts: the v1.0.1 binary was identifying itself as 1.0.0 in DAW plug-in metadata. v1.0.2 reports correctly.

Just wanted to say that PayPal is now an option for purchase of the editor.
