Latest Win11 system
Sadly my computer audio has just changed so that the audio is locked to stereo 44.1k whereas I use and have (always) used 48k and often quad. Did so last night and this morning. But not now. I did nothing to change the audio other than turn the computer on - there is no new software, no new drivers etc etc.
Anyone know how to fix this? I have the problem before but cannot remember what I did to fix it - and of course that might not work this time anyway
FIXED - All I had to do was the same thing over and over again until it eventually worked. Determinism ftw /s

Microsoft are currently doing a lot under the hood with audio and MIDI.
I have had some glitches

i'm 68 and quite possibly will not live long enough for them to get their shit together. Fancy having all that money and all those resources and still being really mediocre.nix808 wrote: Sat May 16, 2026 8:00 am Microsoft are currently doing a lot under the hood with audio and MIDI.

Is definitely not an update that caused this

Thanks and I appreciate your time - the reason I doubt it is an update is that I have had this before - out of the blue - and am now getting it again out of the blue - everything worked this morning then later it didn't. For example I uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers for my interface and got it working. Someone recommended a BIOS fix so I had a look, didnt see anything and exited the BIOS page without changing anything. Problem came back. Doing nothing to the BIOS made the problem come back.nix808 wrote: Sat May 16, 2026 8:14 amThis user works for Microsoft,

I think so, am looking at feasibility of Mac. Goes against the grain for sure but is worth a go as it seems most if not all of my software can work on a Macnix808 wrote: Sat May 16, 2026 8:31 am maybe changing systems then?

- Verify if your audio interface has a new firmware and mainly a new driver.
- Verify if the motherboard BIOS is updated.
- If you are using an ASRock motherboard use one of the yellow USB port to
plug the audio interface.
- Try to use a different USB cable and port.
- If you are using AMD motherboard, make sure to use the latest chipset driver.

We've only been rolling out MIDI in Windows. Nothing has changed yet for audio.nix808 wrote: Sat May 16, 2026 8:00 am Microsoft are currently doing a lot under the hood with audio and MIDI.

I don't know why your sample rate is changing. Third-party drivers each handle this differently. Normally, ASIO overrides them all, so if you were to open a project in Cubase or REAPER or something it was set to 44.1, that would change it. Normally, this would be set in the driver's control panel.
Because of this, I always keep my projects and Windows at the same sample rate and depth. I ensure my templates are also set up to use those same settings.

Then I recommend thinking back to what you have changed lately. Windows isn't going to randomly change your sample rate. Something you've added (app, audio driver, device), or reconfigured recently is the likely cause. It won't be out of the blue, although it may seem like it.sandandpaint wrote: Sun May 17, 2026 1:32 amI have had everything at 48 kHz for many years.Psychlist1972 wrote: Sat May 16, 2026 3:10 pmWe've only been rolling out MIDI in Windows.
