These patches were pulled or ported (in come cases) into Zenology Pro directly from the ZenCore used for these systems, so they are in the same order, and the documentation applies directly. For me -- It was useful for gathering info on Patchnames, and uploading into my settings. There are references to my stuff ("Mirros the FA workstation and JD-XA Synth), because... well because I am using AI to help sort through stuff. Mentioning, as this was purpose-pulled for my stuff, not generic, so if there are references to weird crap... it's because i am integrating / rebuilding a hybrid system and the AI engine referenced it. Anway -- this is free.. and worth every penny I am charging for it.

To the discussion at hand. As I dove into the patches I have heard/wanted to mimic in my settings.. I am thankful that my Logic Pro projects have effects sends (internal and external) as some of these need work. There are a load though... that what comes straight out of Zenology is good enough for my purposes. Anyway, the $99 sale is a great deal. I would have paid that just to get some of my FA patches ITB.. for home use.

You might find it interesting that Banks C and D in Zenology were originally on the Integra 7 and represented "Supernatural Synth" banks

And then they were ported over to the Zencore system. The Synth Legends Bank or Bank C was originally provided as a free download for Integra7 and Jupiter 80 using the Super Natural engine

The Super Natural engine had some differences to Zen Core especially with acoustic instruments and articulations it would play with multiple samples and playing technique so it's not 1:1 but the underlying samples and presets come from it
I wish they had a demo version of Zenology Pro. I haven't tried the full version for many years, actually since the last time I bought a lifetime key. It would be nice if they had a version to try it out (to refresh my memory) without having to pay for a month of RC.
I agree, and I think it's silly that Roland will give away a free month of a Premium Sub for anyone but only once. They should give away a month to anyone every year or two. They would make more money because people could try out what is new and essentially get a demo everything

I have thrown $20 at it a few times just to see what's new and never found it worthwhile to continue. The Roland Cloud Manager is also an issue for me

Did you ever end up buying Zenology on one of these sales?

No I got the play for life deal which came with a year Ultimate Subscription and two plugins. I got the D50 and the XV5080

I got to know Zenology Pro rather well during that year and made a bunch of patches that I autosampled so I can still play them

If you are just looking for the presets you should check out the Core Subscription. It's $29 a year but it comes with Zenology and all of the model expansions, SRX, etc. That's probably the best deal I think. You just have to throw $29 a year at at it which is what a few beers at the pub costs, or $2.99 a month

You just get the player however and not the full synth, but you get all the presets. Since that includes all the model expansions that's a lot of Roland for $3

You do not get the model expansions or the model expansion presets in a Core subscription. You need a Pro subs or higher for those (ie, access to Zenology Pro).

Click "Compare" to see what's included for each subs tier:

My bad I thought you did, you do however get a bunch of sample content

Yes, you get all the other preset/expansion banks including banks that include new samples - there's a lot of stuff in there.

Honestly though, I don't find Zenology massively inspiring, for whatever reason...

Hi, can anyone answer a question for me?

Does Zenology Pro save/export .svz files as only sound banks or is it also possible to save as single patches, for export to zen-core hardware like the mc-101?

I looked at the manual and also found a youtube video showing the process of saving as a sound bank for export to hardware, but wasn't able to find any info regarding export of single patches for hardware use.

Thanks in advance!

Single patches is not possible since single patches on the MC-101 is clip patches and Zenology only export bank files and not clips.

My workaround is to create a blank bank in Zenology pro and copy the presets i want into that bank and export it and put it into the SD card on the MC-101.

Ok thanks!

Yea I guess I'll do the same. It appears Zenology GX (at least for ipad) exports single patches, but the ipad version appears to do only that i.e. no banks.

I think that banks would generally be more useful and less messy than single patches, though having the additional option for single patches would be nice too.

In any case, Zenology Pro seems far more robust than ZGX for the iPad, and hopefully that'll be cheap enough to grab later anyway, so I'll probably end up grabbing Zenology Pro before the sale ends this month.

What I ever asked me, if I would buy Zenology Pro and I have the model xpansions and sound libraries already for Fantom, do the licences apply then for Zen Pro also or would I have to buy it extra for it?

Post

If I am not an absolute purist re: having the exact same sounds from JV/XV and similar models from that era absolutely 1:1 but getting in the ballpark, would Zenology Pro good enough? I actually still have a license for the actual VST versions but the UI is so terrible for preset browsing/searching on those that I would be more willing to accept impostor sounds that are maybe only 80 % authentic but with a better UI.
