The entire list of CMJ's Top 250 Singles 1979-1989, the biggest songs on college/alternative radio in that period:
55. Tracy Chapman, “Fast Car”
94. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, “Tomorrow People”
116. Prince and the Revolution, “Let’s Go Crazy”
what's also interesting is that in 250 records, there were only 3 black artists...and zero urban music
That's far more of an important observation than me noticing that the chart appeared to be made up of lots of one-off (novelty) numbers and / or U2
yeah in terms of market penetration...I don't think there was a single demographic that hadn't heard most of joshua tree informally...phenomena that would never happen today
The especially crazy thing about this is that Public Enemy was all over college radio. Like, PE literally came from college radio.

Nah, they're from New York

Yes, and they started the band while they were students at Adelphi running a college radio show

Any excuse to post this
negativland reminds me of the interactive multimedia exhibits you find at the smithsonian modern art museum...its impressive as an excercise in satirizing, statement making, and creative trolling...but as music cant say I find it that interesting...will try some more though
Music had a one night stand with sound design.....And the condom broke

K-pop and J-pop/anime/manga/weebdom is definitely a foreign flirtation of Gen Z, who are Pluto in Sagittarius natives.
It's not surprising exactly, given the Sag nature, but it's strange nonetheless to me. I too wouldn't have guessed this is what they'd be into.

That said, I'm pretty sure Gen A will drift away from it, and it won't be as beloved as it is now. Despite it being ubiquitous, of course. And at a guess, Gen B (Pluto in Aquarius) will probably hate it.

I'm sorry, but what the flip are you talking about?

Don't forget the influence much of it gets from Uranus.

This is what I hate about this f**king place. You didn't even bother to look at the figures. Asia might be on the rise but it is still miles and miles behind the US, which still has 40% of the global market. That's not going to change any time soon. So look at the facts and shut your f**king mouth, you're just embarrassing yourself.
Plus, the economies in APAC are trending up, especially China. US needs to solve its incompetent leadership problem.
Where China excels is where the CCP pours in tens of billions of dollars and that's not happening in their music industry. And when things go to shit, people turn to comforting things like music, so if Trump has any effect on the US music market, it's likely to be positive.

Sweet! Barely noon. My work for the day is done!

K-pop is great. Hanguk eumak is not part of modern music's horridness.

I hate this place because entering hangul characters in a message activates the spam filter. 🤡
