Tchad Blake's MONGREL RACK

2 years in the making, Mongrel Rack includes 8 plugins crafted by Tchad Blake and Audiopunks, combining
curated vintage hardware emulations with new original designs.

Inside the rack:

Analog Delay 680 : A unique BBD design modelled after Tchad's DOD pedal, this plugin offers warm, organic repeats and a controllable saturation circuit.

Vibrato TB-Mod : A VB-2 emulation, modded to have a slow mode for deep, warped analogue modulation.

Mongrel Mask : Colourful character EQ based on Tchad's favorite equalisation curves.

Tremola : An original tremolo design with unique features such as Padenza for syncopated rhythmic movement.

The Shaft : Crushed, hard-hitting limiting based on Leveloc.

Mongrelizer : Source enhancement processor using harmonics and soft saturation.

Tesla Stereo Enhance : A plugin revival based on BASE Bedini, enhanced by a newer stereoize algorithm.

Gator : Rhythmic shaping & gating

A marmite plugin, I love it and the Audiopunks ethos. Chad is one of the few innovators in mixing.
Mac Studio M4

Thank you! We're really excited to hear how everyone is using it differently!

A fun plugin but it really needs oversampiing to help with cramping of the EQ and aliasing of the saturators. your other plugins have it so I'm curious why this corner was cut?? Are there plans to add OS???

Post

Hey J, Saturators are double precision so they don't absolutely need OS, however we're not excluding it completely as a future update. We developed our own OS, in many cases it's non-negociable for us.
In this specefic case, sonically we're very happy with the units, so adding OS will introduce latency and more CPU consumption. So it's a tradeoff.

The option to make that tradeoff or not is a bonus to customers.

Until people who don't know any better start complaining about cpu consumption.

Wouldn't turning OS off solve this? Make the default with OS off and give the customer
the option to enable it if needed.

It would, but the latency will not be 0 anymore even with OS off. We'll give it a shot, and probably integrate it in a later update if it makes sense.

I will never understand some people's obsession with aliasing. If the minutiae of digital signal processing is bothering you that much then you are in way too deep and need to come back up for air.

Post

While neat, it’s not overly doing it for me like the other Tchad multi-effect.

I'm a fan. Very creative plugins.

and I'll never understand people willing to sacrifice sound quality for zero latency.

Indeed.

I've not tried it yet, but aliasing, especially on a full bandwidth type of signal, can make your sound pretty harsh and even sour sounding, with all the enharmonic content aliasing can create. You might not notice on a bass guitar, as it's mostly a triangle wave at lower frequencies, but if you put it on a synthesizer, it can and up sounding pretty bad. There are a lot of saturation plugins that don't contribute any noticeable aliasing and run without adding latency, but since this is a must-effect, it might be more difficult.
