My Parker Fly deluxe is still going strong. I fell into s rabbit hole with a little bit of Attack/Decay into a Microcosm and boom. Two hours has passed with psychedelic cello sounds.

The D'angelico Tammany(acoustic) is still getting a good workout. It's been an hour so far and I've got a long way to go to get thru the entire piece. I'm studying it bar by bar.

I've been following this guy on YT. He has a lot of great videos on developing travis style picking.

Sometimes I don't think I'm ready for the songs I want to learn Travis style. Namely CSNY Helplessly Hoping. I hacked it up pretty bad back in the 80's and thought I'd do better this time out. I am playing it better but often get lost along the way.

After torturing myself with travis style picking for a few hours on the acoustic. I turned to the telecaster and am proceeding to torture the neighbors with double stop country licks. The later was fun.

I just played my new SR-300E for an hour or so.

My fingers disagree with the idea that it's an "easier" instrument.

got a nice little groove going with a korg sample 2 and jammed along on my jumbo Gibson 160e..don't know how long I played..long enough to lose myself in it for a bit

There was a time before you were born (strange huh)
When guitar player magazine would run all these sweepstakes.

One was an electric guitar or bass where a master luthier would measure you and specifically your hands and fingers then design the perfect instrument to match your stature and hands/fingers.

Well, those Ibanez necks (guitar, bass, doesn't matter; seriously, how can someone not like these) fit my hands really well ... it's just that with the frets suddenly further away, I keep trying to do stretches that would be reasonable on a guitar, but a bit "extreme" on that thing.

As a bass player and beginner guitarist - lol yes, welcome to our world. The stretch is real. I remember when first learning guitar I would read that beginners found stuff like the Cmaj open chord stretch hard and I was like "hah, we do way more than this on the regular on bass." Different instruments, different challenges.

Ibanez bass necks do feel good, particularly the SR premiums, and especially for beginners, who tend to like 38mm nut width and slim necks. As you gain bass experience you start to appreciate slightly larger, chunkier neck profiles. After about seven years, my preference is yamaha's 40mm and slightly less slim C profile common on their BB's.

Well, playing a "C-shape" major triad from the 4th fret (ie. C# or G#) triad from the 4th fret doesn't seem like a huge problem even on this 34" scale. The minor triad is a bit more annoying 'cos the stretchy side is on the pinky, but that's still sort of doable (well, idk... not a problem to play as arpeggio, but a bit difficult for me to hold as a chord).

The problem starts where my muscle memory says that "in any position, the index and pinky can both cover two frets" ... and stretching over 6 frets might be a bit much for me on bass at the lower positions.

As you gain bass experience you start to appreciate slightly larger, chunkier neck profiles.

Well, maybe... although these things can be quite personal I think.

With guitar I kinda went the exact opposite direction, where at first I kinda liked a bit chunkier, more traditional necks, but lately I've been gravitating towards a pretty much flat fretboard with barely any neck at all.

yeah guitar feel is a very subjective and personal thing. A lot of people really prefer the thinner, faster necks. I definitely used to.
