Question - downloading a bunch of gumroad stuff today and admittedly I am giving $0 to test the plugins first.

In the past, I have often dropped $1 or $2 in pay what you want situations.

I guess my question is how much does the platoform take - is $1 worth giving or are you not getting anything from that? What % do you get from $1 or $2? What number is "ok" to give...I know there are suggestions...I just want to know the general math.

I forget to go back often after I "demo" them, so this is something I will start noting to myself in my Notion plugin database that I keep for myself (Yes, ever plugin I use is in a self maintained cloud database). I definitely want to support folks, just kind of hate this gumroad format, over all.

I always take them at their suggestion with a tip often. Typically I will try it first and pay $0 and then donate later.

For sure, I know my post is sloppy and all over the place. What if $0 / free is advertised... I am wondering how much of $1 or $2 gets to the dev.

So yeah, $1 is pretty fail. 40 cents to creator.
$2 gets them $1.30.

I will save my money for the bigger amounts later.

$5 netting them $4 seems to be a sweet spot where it can start to matter.

I think all we can do is assume the amount asked is what they consider fair., anything else is a bonus.

If they ask anything at least, $0 is prob a genuine “up to you”

I have very little confidence that any plugin distributed through Gumroad is going to have any longevity or support. Those plugins would definitely become the weak link in any project or workflow you included them in.
THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP

I just don't love the platform for plugins when you have to factor in a checkout process for demoing something.

Appreciate the feedback pekbro.

And say I go on a past2future sample downloading spree for example, at least I kind of understand the economics now and won't be giving multiple 40 cent tips.

Decent point for sure.

But until like 2024 it was slim pickens on Linux...still is in some categories.

And there are devs like Bertom who moved to Lemonsqueezy.
