Anyone tried this? It's on special but I still think it cost too much. Generous 30 day trial. Sound demos are interesting.

While it isn't cheap, Granite is still one of my favorite granular synths. I've got so many of them, it's hard to pick one that is a favorite. But, from an ease of use/sound standpoint, you could do worse:

That's an excellent interface. Seems easier to understand than most granulars.

This is pretty nice, one of the better granular synth offerings imo, definitely one of the more cpu efficient. Interestingly, this guy was a researcher like J Breebaart over at Dolby seems like, in other words excellent DSP, well, it should be pretty good anyway.

If I didn't have N+1 granulars (where N = way too many already), I'd probably get this. But it doesn't seem to do more that many of the other granular synths out there do, like modulation grain length and rate. There seems to be this yawning gap between almost all of them and Crusher-X, which will do practically anything you want but will take you a month to work out how, or knocking something up in Reaktor which adds another month+.

Yeah I dunno, the design here is a bit odd, though I'm pretty sure it can do things other granular's cannot, due to the control over playback. It approaches MN Morphagene a bit, I think.
DSP is very good, I'm going to buy it, definitely already bought it
Precise, sub-sample grain scheduling
The low level math in this totally blows away the math in crusher X. Of course they are very different.

So I've been talking to Nick the developer of this, super nice guy. Anyway, this is far from feature complete, most of the work so far went into it's high-performance engineering. There are more ideas in the works, some of which may not have an equivalent in other SW.
It's likely worth considering the discounted intro pricing.

Bought it! Thanks for the info pekbro. Phono sounds very good to me. Excited to see what features come next.
If less is more, imagine how much more MORE will be.

Care to share some of the ideas Nick has in the works for Phonon?pekbro wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 2:21 am There are more ideas in the works, some of which may not have an equivalent in other SW.

Glad I grabbed this one. Definitely worth a demo if you love granular tools

Not quite yet, if that (one thing) can work out, it will be especially cool. That’s not all of it though.scott_free wrote: Fri May 22, 2026 12:30 amCare to share some of the ideas Nick has in the works for Phonon?pekbro wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 2:21 am There are more ideas in the works, some of which may not have an equivalent in other SW.
