Can you set a custom location for downloaded packs? Strangely it seems to be defaulting to '/Users/myname/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software' on my system.

It’s weird they keep reminding me to register for the bonus content in the Reason Hub - I have no intention of doing so because I just wanted to demo Reason 14 and will probably buy it outright rather than continue the sub, but you would think they would only offer the bonuses after someone had committed? Seems a bit foolish, I bet there are some who would take advantage of of that.

I think the idea is that they get you so dug in on you choon you "wrote" using the 4,567 pack soundz that you just have to carry on with the Sub.

I actually used the sub trial to test R14 seeing it is such a change of direction and didn't add any of the extras as no need for the wasteware once I bought R14 - which I did in an hour or so.

Yeah same here - it's a solid update and the reverb is awesome

AFAIK it's still possible to demo Reason 14 without subscribing if you create an account and download from this link
https://www.reasonstudios.com/reason/updates

In demo mode, you can save projects but can't open them or export audio.

Just in case anyone was unaware.

I know but I needed to know if I could setup a template the way I wanted it to manage the new layout and the sub seemed a better way to demo that.

I'm really enjoying this update but it's making me miss poly aftertouch more because all those lovely synths I have in Reason really need that level of expression

I miss MPE…
And I am pissed about the DRM. Often enough I fire my live set and it doesn’t load the rack, because I did not open it for too long. I don’t have an internet connection in this case… Its a slap in the face for honest customers…

You can enable long-term authorization for one year in the settings. And if you haven't opened Reason for more than one year, you have probably abandoned it.

Thanks, I didn’t know this… That helps, though I can imagine something better than that…

Is there an ‘external instrument’ or ‘external effect’ option for tracks?
I’m interested in Reason 14 but am mostly hardware.

You can simply route anything (cabling) from and to separate audio channels in your interface. But this solution is not delay compensated. I think I have seen some discussion about this topic on the ReasonTalk forum.

It does have a basic external midi out module so you have to do it the old way and use that for midi tracks and add separate Audio tracks for your hardware and make sure that the audio channels are armed so you can hear your hardware.

Thought I'd give enabling plugins another go but I think I'll turn them off again, I really just want a fill in a few gaps (eg a decent Piano) but the plugin manager is useless, won't let me disable them all except just a few

Yes it is. If you have a ton of plugins and you want to disable a lot of them, you have to do it one by one. There's no way to highlight multiple plugins and disable the bunch. I can't believe this is how it is - sometimes I think they don't use their own program to make music. Anyway, you can also delete them from the VST folder. The problem with that for ME is that I have no idea which AU plugins (I'm mainly a Logic user) wrap the VST and need the VST in the folder for the AU to work. Some of Rob Papen's plugins come to mind.

Another thing you can do is forget disabling the plugins and instead HIDE plugins from the browser. This has been the quickest solution for me. However, the problem with this is that it doesn't remove the plugins from the right-click list, so you'll still have a gigantic list of plugins there.

Post

Yeah at least with hide you can multi select, I'm not disabling them one by one it would take forever, they need to add a working multi select in the plugin manager (you can multi select by dragging but when you click disable it just disables one)
