I've never really thought about it.
Been using my KRK Rockit's just flat on the table together with a subwoofer.
It was fine.... until I bought stands for them. I can't believe just how much clearer they sound now.

The Alesis monitors on the back aren't actually used for monitoring at all... They got defunct to TV speakers. Although I still can switch to them to A/B stuff
Will put something behind them anyway... thanks

I've got two more speakers behind me which are connected to the Alesis via a surround amp.... for movies etc... But those are for entertainment only. (But I can patch sound to it if I want to
)
The most important, unexpected change was just lifting the KRKs.... It's phenomenal

Yep. I had 20 years back my Yamahas on my table and was fighting. Then a friend bought some stands to test and "what the f..." sound was so much clearer I could now actually mix properly.

Id think having them at ear level helps too, unless your ears are actually at your desk level of course ☻
