Dear KVR People -
Hello and greetings. Letting people here know about a private beta test for a new multi track looper and effects engine called SpectraLooper.com.
(VST, AU and desktop; Mac first, Windows soon)
Spectra Looper is crafted for exploratory looping and sound design – aiming for a frictionless and seamless experience. There are eight independent stereo loops and a deep playground of effects, and novel workflows like auto-record cycling which switches between effected loop tracks automatically.
Brief Bio. Dan Newman. Web application engineer, designer, and musician. Spectra Looper is my first dedicated audio plugin. Pedal obsessed guitarist. Musical production: soundscapes, Hip Hop, West African and other polyrhythmics. Founder of sonicgrid.co (the music platform built for depth - also in beta).
The shape of it:
- Eight independent stereo loop channels, up to 60 seconds each
- Per-channel effects on every loop — pitch shifting, reverse, granular delay, BBD-style delay, lo-fi degradation, saturation, reverb, time shifting
- Mix-bus effects for full-mix sound design — shift, scatter, shimmer, lo-fi bit crush, and more
- Always-on rolling mixdown that catches the whole session in the background
- Full MIDI integration
- Presets that save all settings including a full stereo preview mix
- WAV drag-out straight into your DAW
- Auto cycle record mode turns whole system into realtime looping effects framework
As a live effect engine. Run the whole system as a responsive effect system applied to live playing. Loop channels switch hands-free as you play (no buttons to press), each transforming the signal in its own character; now you're playing into a cascading environment that's reacting, and shaping the sound back at you.

Why build this. I could not find in the desktop plugin space anything that matched the fluidity of working with guitar pedals. Then it just took off from their and became its own vision. The looper I always wanted
Some shout outs and influences: pedal makers I keep going back to — Chase Bliss, Drolo, and Pladask — who build hands-on sonic playgrounds at a very deep and creative level. Loop artists like Public Enemy, Terry Riley, Imogen Heap, Brian Eno, Pamela Z, J Dilla, Harmonia and so many others.

About the beta.
Cohort target: 15–20 testers. Roughly 4–8 weeks of weekly builds. v1.0 targeted to ship in Q3 2026. Beta testers get free v1 license at launch.
What I most need is honest, real-engagement feedback. Looking for testers who:
- Love exploratory studio and sound design processes
- Like pushing their own limits musically and stretching into new territories
- Are willing to put some real effort into feedback by noting the qualities of the user experience that delight or mystify — providing an account through writing, voice notes, screen recordings, or whatever's natural
— Dan
