A thought on this, Kontakt got traction by making a "player" version that library developers could code for that allowed people to buy the library without owning Kontakt. This screams for that sort of thing, if you make it easy to just buy the player version with a library then just like Kontakt, most people will eventually buy Sourcelab. I feel like UVI and NI make this more dificult than it should be, just a thought.hypenotic wrote: Thu Apr 02, 2026 9:23 am Hi @havran,
I’ve recorded this short video for you that should clarify the purpose of the Skin Editor in SourceLab.You’re right — it’s mainly designed for 3rd-party sound designers and users who create their own soundbanks or preset packs. It allows them to present their pack with a completely custom interface that feels like their own plugin, without any coding or scripting required.

Thanks for the suggestion, this is something to think about. Not sure the best way implement such a thing, should the library creator be able to bundle the player and then they pay us a royalty?machinesworking wrote: Fri Apr 03, 2026 9:15 pmA thought on this, Kontakt got traction by making a "player" version that library developers could code for that allowed people to buy the library without owning Kontakt. But definitely something to look into we obviously want more 3rd party library creators to use SourceLab to offer their content.

Version 2.2.0 is out now. I added a wavetable designer and a Drawable filter, you can draw the filter shape and then warp it at audio rate, gives some very cool and interesting effects!

Would someone be able to go into detail about the preset generator that is in this synth? Is it much like the one in Serum 2 where you pick a group of instruments you like and it generates similar sounding presets or is it more like Synplant 2 that can generate new sounds from the ground up that can be further tweaked?

It's good that the developers are openly engaging the community and seem open to suggestions. Please, more of this.machinesworking wrote: Fri Apr 03, 2026 5:18 amSure, I'm not that invested in this but jesus f**k do people have to lose their shit every time AI pops up? I hate it on tick tock, flooding bad music etc. but some dorky use of it in advertising is just a lot of to do about nothing. And again I wouldn't dirty delete, I would just call out people for expecting me as a developer to somehow magically not overreact when my product is shit on.Chicken Drummy wrote: Fri Apr 03, 2026 2:42 am![]()
Please don't lump me in with those "users" you speak of. I'm not, nor will I ever be, one of those individuals you're clearly targeting. Yes, I did call out this particular dev due to them commenting a bunch of rude sh** then thinking better of it and rightly deleting it. Good on them for doing so as it was the wise thing to do!
I'm one to take a dev's side in most cases; I've seen plenty of devs being unfairly ganged up on here on KVR and that really isn't my style. But devs are not above reproach and there are times when they overreact, lash out, act like jackasses and deserve the negative reactions they get.
In my view this was one of those times, so I spoke up about it. And honestly? I don't regret saying something in this instance because it wasn't me who was in the wrong.![]()
I do not expect every single person to be the smooth criminal that Urs Heckman is, or the polished deflector that Peter from IK is. Mostly dude deleted after thinking better of it, but you and others are still lording it up. He's not Mussolini!
Beyond that, the product looks interesting. I hope the developers stick around, I'm gonna grab the demo and hope that a few things are in place, like assignable automation slots, single click arrow preset browsing, MPE support etc.
It's not good that the developers, even as a small team, elected to take short cuts with AI images and AI manuals. They shouldn't be crucified for it, but these are decisions that lead you down a slippery slope. The easy, mindless use of AI is a disaster in motion, due to apathy. People simply don't want to think of the ramifications of using AI in such a manner. Because if you put in even 5 minutes of contemplation, it should cause existential dread in any rationale human being.
But for me, the real red flag here is that the developers use AI in a very flippant manner and clearly do not even take the time to review or edit the results. That's not an "oopsie". That is a mindset. Pull up an AI image generator and "set it and forget it." Surely they use AI in their coding (full version release and then two decimal updates in less than a year? for a tiny team?), and it makes you wonder the results that mindset will produce in their product line.

Hi, the way it works is quite simple. Just pick a category in the browser, this can be any category like bass, keys, brass whatever. Then you just click the Dice button at the top. This will then generate a new preset.TronixA872 wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 2:47 pm Would someone be able to go into detail about the preset generator that is in this synth? We are not one of these companies falsely claiming this is A.I. or something. SourceLab comes with thousands of presets in many categories, we have a very unique feature where the presets are very modular. So you can load a sound source from any preset directly. If you like a certain sound from a preset you can load only that sound. Or you can load the effect rack ect, or even just the midi data. The presets are designed up front to be modular and you can borrow just parts from each preset. So the random preset generator is just a natural progression from this core design, we randomly extract parts of different presets that are in the same (or similar) category and then combine them into a new preset.
So you get human made presets just remixed into something fresh. Then of course you can tweak and change as much as you like.
