I hope that they do a good job and don't price it too cheaply. The verniers and pins will make or break this product.
Damn it B, why?

From what I've heard/read, the pins/matrix are the big hold up. Hopefully that means they want to get it right.ghettosynth wrote: Fri May 29, 2026 9:43 pmI hope that they do a good job and don't price it too cheaply. The verniers and pins will make or break this product.

A synthesizer doesn't get better just because the price is higher.ghettosynth wrote: Fri May 29, 2026 9:43 pmI hope that they do a good job and don't price it too cheaply. The verniers and pins will make or break this product.
Most companies cheap out on parts and use the same components these days and the higher price is more of a Brand tax and has nothing to do with the internal build quality anymore.
The days when companies built electronic products that was easy to repair or lasted for a lifetime is gone and it hurts less when a cheaper priced product dies after 5-10 years compared to when a expensive product dies.

Indeed. I'm quite fascinated with how they will choose to implement the pin/matrix, having given the design considerable thought, myself. Building longevity into the function/mechanism, I suspect is a major concern/issue.Seafire Mk2 wrote: Sat May 30, 2026 9:23 amFrom what I've heard/read, the pins/matrix are the big hold up. Sequential voice cards are user-swappable DIMM’s. Plus, a lot of issues can be fixed with software. Most (all?) Behringer’s are single surface mount PCB’s, difficult to service even by many professionals.D-Fusion wrote: Sat May 30, 2026 10:00 am The days when companies built electronic products that was easy to repair or lasted for a lifetime is gone and it hurts less when a cheaper priced product dies after 5-10 years compared to when a expensive product dies.

Not impossible tho.
If a clone of a vintage synth that cost under 200 lasts 10 years, nobody is gonna complain. Just buy another one!

The WASP Deluxe Behringer did was miles of better quality than the original though. The original was almost in cardboard box territory.

I hope so too. I'm not that excited about it, per se, but those and the dials will make all of the difference on this. If you don't know, venier dials like that are not so cheap to make well. You will easily pay $50 or more for well made vintage units. I bought some Japanese made clones from ebay some years ago that were making the rounds in radio forums. They're ok, but they're not great. They were touted as being decent value by the radio community at about $7 each. I would want dials with less backlash in a VCS synth. I regularly try to take things like this off of surplus vintage industrial equipment when I can find it.Seafire Mk2 wrote: Sat May 30, 2026 9:23 amFrom what I've heard/read, the pins/matrix are the big hold up. btw - did anyone hear what happened with the Yamaha DX1 clone? Wasn't that one almost ready 1.5 year ago?

Yeah, apparently the BX1 is 'close' but no idea what that means
A souped up dx with a cs80/jp8? filter seems a weird concoction to me. No idea what the thinking behind that is..
