Hello KVR! We’ve just released Chaos Line, a random performance sequencer. It creates hypnotic, morphing, tweakable random sequences.

At first glance, you might think Chaos Line is an amazing way to create 303-style bassline sequences with accents and slides. And, you’d be right! It is! But, it does much more than that. It’s perfect for lead lines, arpeggios, modular-style experimentation, and all kinds of happy accidents.

Chaos Line doesn’t just create one sequence — it generates four. Use the morph area to blend between them, for constantly evolving movement. The playback mode determines the order the notes will be played, allowing for even more variation and fills.

Once you’ve created something you love, drag the MIDI button into the arrange view to export a sequence.

Chaos Line is available as an Audio Unit and VST. It’s currently on sale for $39 USD + tax (normally $49).

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

It’s been so much fun to test and create the launch music. Here’s some production notes on the music in the video, if anyone’s curious:

0:00 TD-3 into a DOD Hard Rock. EHX Small Stone used for some bars. Some drum rhythms made with Chaos Line as well.
0:15 Behringer 2600.
0:30 An included drum break in Logic Pro run into JHS Pulp ’n’ Peel.
0:45 The Robot Rocket music, chopped up.
1:02 TD-3 into a Bi-Phase pedal.

I had more examples that didn’t make the cut. One was several layers of sequences that were different registers and lengths, so they ended up with a non-repeating polymetric thing. It sounded very cool, but seemed harder to explain as the first introduction to the plugin.

Given Chaos Line generates MIDI, there’s lots of potential uses. It also uses MIDI input to set the lowest note. That means you can play a sequence into the plugin and have it generate permutations of that melody.

We’re a small company, and Chaos Line is our fifth plugin. We have 3 other plugins in development as prototypes, and lots more ideas. If you think our stuff is cool, please spread the word.

Very nice Marc, another great plugin! :tu:

It is a bit crashy for me when closing up the UI for some reason, still testing that tho. win 11

Congrats on the release, Marc! The morphing sequencer concept looks fantastic for generating polyrhythmic modular-style patterns.

@pekbro — I've been seeing similar GUI close-handling issues with some newer VST3 hosts on Apple Silicon.

@marcedwards — What host and OS was that crash occurring on? Also, does it support native Apple Silicon for the AU format? Looking forward to checking this one out in the studio.

The Higher State distortion. :)
1:02 TD-3 into a Bi-Phase pedal.
That sounds amazing!

Please extend the sale once you have the AU working. I'll buy it then.

Ooh, not good. You’re using FL Studio, right?

If you’re seeing a “disabled because of an error during processing” error, can you please open the plugin wrapper’s troubleshooting tab and select use fixed size buffers. We’re still looking into the cause for this.

Yep! All our plugins are Apple Silicon native. Looking forward to hearing what you think.

You have impecable taste and a keen eye! That’s entirely why I bought the pedal.

Yep! We’ll try to get that sorted ASAP.

Not using FL Studio with it actually, it was Reaper 6 and MuLab, I just have FLS too.

Awesome, good to hear about native Apple Silicon support! I'll download the demo today and run it through its paces in Logic Pro.

@pekbro that's interesting, Reaper is usually rock-solid. Hope you guys get the Reaper/MuLab GUI close issue sorted quickly!

We released updates for almost all the VST versions of our plugins today. The main reason was change the dial behaviour. The VST spec lets the dial behaviour be controlled by the DAW, but some DAWs don’t have a setting to change between dragging up/down, and the dial angle pointing towards the mouse cursor. All our plugins now use dragging up/down to increase and decrease. That seems to be the choice most other plugins have made.

Also, the update for Chaos Line includes some changes that should improve stability. We weren’t able to reproduce the crash, but the changes should hopefully help.

Ok. Please try Chaos Line 1.0.0.1 VST and let me know if that helps.
