Hi! I'm a beginner orchestral composer from Finland. I've been self-taught in theory and composition for a little over a year. I re-launched my Youtube channel and here's a link to one of my compositions. Any criticism is always welcome. I hope you like it :)

Not really on KVR much at the moment...too busy with composing, but saw this and had to have a listen! :ud: :ud: :ud:

I can hear a very clear melodic idea that is developed throughout the piece - holds it all together without a doubt...

I enjoyed the 2 listens and for me it definitely works overall, but could be improved in a number of simple ways...

1) The melodic theme - yes it is developed reasonably successfully as I said above, but I think it maybe needs to go further (particularly rhythmically); there is a lot of scope with the main melody to develop it in terms of its rhythmic ebb and flow...

At the moment it simple moves in even steps (slow at the beginning and then faster as the piece progresses); why not break it up a little bit so that the melody is sometimes made up of different note lengths within a single phrase?

2) You are clearly writing 'horizontally' ..focusing on individual melodic lines -that's great! But this gives you the opportunity to have those melodic lines weave around each other and move at different times...adding an extra sense of motion to the whole.

At the moment a lot of your lines all move together too much for me.

3) Texture / Arrangement - it works and is pleasant to listen to, but perhaps a little bit stodgy at times in terms of an overall orchestral 'sound'...a little bit more research into orchestration? Also extend your orchestral palette upwards a little in terms of note choices - the strings in particular can go significantly higher and this (used carefully) can 'lift' a piece at key moments.

That's enough! I need to stop typing or it will be too much to absorb!

One more point: Loved the big rise towards the end - very effective!, but, for me the fade out was a bit lazy - try and work out a way to end it 'musically' as such?
