I loved the keyboard action (and poly aftertouch) but mine had a horrible clack at the bottom of the keystroke. It was like playing a snare drum with every keystroke.Matt67 wrote: Sat Jun 06, 2026 1:41 pm Aside from the constantly dead battery, the noisy key action, and the buttons that either stopped working or got pushed into the chassis, the VFX wasn't actually that bad.
Unfortunately you're probably right. I doubt the VFX was "everyone's first keyboard" but the ESQ-1 was ubiquitous. Everybody I knew had one and while it wasn't my first keyboard it was one of my favorites at the time.Sandra F wrote: Sun Jun 07, 2026 7:56 am Hope this will be the VFX, but it was not the first digital synth for many people… so ESQ 1 makes more sense. However, I loved VFX!
But hey an old man can dream can't he? I'd be all over a VFX emulation but it would be hard to justify buying an ESQ emulation already owning the SQ80V.
Even if they add the VFX Transwaves an ESQ won't be the same architecture as the VFX. Maybe it will be a mashup of the SD-1 as Gamma predicted.
At least this will be the first Cherry Audio teaser that actually has me exited......

Really don't see the point of a Cherry ESQ-1 plugin when Arturia's SQ80-V covers that ground comprehensively. There's really no way to make it "better" soooo...

Also how many devs keep on releasing Roland Jupiters? Why don't these companies think of different instruments. Yamaha is a good example, only the CS80 gets flogged to death by so many, How about more of the CS family?mholloway wrote: Sun Jun 07, 2026 4:44 pm Really don't see the point of a Cherry ESQ-1 plugin when Arturia's SQ80-V covers that ground comprehensively. I really don't see the point of them doing yet another analog emulation since there are millions of them already that cover every bit of analog ground multiple times. (How many MiniMoog emulations are there and so on?)mholloway wrote: Sun Jun 07, 2026 4:44 pm Really don't see the point of a Cherry ESQ-1 plugin when Arturia's SQ80-V covers that ground comprehensively. I'm just happy they're giving a hybrid digital synth some attention (if it does indeed end up being an Ensoniq synth but the clues are pretty strong).
As for making it "better" they could add more Oscs and all the extra waveforms as found in the VFX/SD. We'll have to wait and see what they release.

What's with the triangles in the video title? Is it going to be a Korg Delta ? ( i know the triangles are upside down, but still..)

There's already an VFX emulator, plus another coming out from a more established developer, both using the actual VFX firmware.Teksonik wrote: Sat Jun 06, 2026 12:44 pm I used to own a VFX and as I wrote earlier an accurate emulation would be an insta-buy for me.

Can they be used legally? Even if there are Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum versions of a VFX Emulator I'd still be interested in a legit version if such a thing is even possible.Uncle E wrote: Mon Jun 08, 2026 3:23 am There's already an VFX emulator, plus another coming out from a more established developer, both using the actual VFX firmware.
Either way if we can have a dozen MiniMoog emulations we could have more than a couple of VFX emulations.
A.I. overview:
Yes, a software developer can absolutely make an emulation of the Ensoniq VFX, and independent developers have already done it. However, doing so involves navigating distinct technical challenges and legally complex gray areas.
The rights to Ensoniq’s intellectual property (IP), patents, and copyrights are owned by Creative Technology Ltd.. Creative purchased Ensoniq in January 1998 and subsequently merged them with E-mu Systems, before eventually dissolving the division and archiving the hardware lines.
I assume Arturia either obtained permission from Creative when making their SQ80V plugin or deemed the legal risk to be low.
I also assume Cherry Audio has thought this through with their upcoming plugin which by all the clues is some sort of Ensoniq emulation.
It would really be a win-win for Creative to licence the firmware to developers for a fee since they wouldn't have to do the work or provide the support. Then we might see other emulations like the Fizmo etc....
