Just downloaded this after checking out the Tape Fiasco FX plugin (viewtopic.php?t=630759)
A really cool freebie and saw it hadn't been mentioned here yet.
"Annulus -
Six worlds. One instrument.
Annulus is a polyphonic resonator and effects engine built for sound designers who think in texture, not presets. At its heart is a faithful implementation of the physical modeling engine behind Mutable Instruments' Rings — one of the most celebrated modules in the history of Eurorack — paired with a full effects chain and a visual interface that breathes with the sound.
Six modes. Six physical models. Six complete sonic identities."

Does this function as an FX insert or a vst instrument?

Wow, very nice! Thanks for the heads up. Tape Fiasco’s UI breaks the mold of what a plugin should look like. And although the sound is ultimately what counts for me, I do appreciate it when a developer implements a totally new aesthetic.
Annulus definitely sounds intriguing, especially if it’s based on Mutable Instruments’ Ring. The modular world has some very cool ideas. And I love being able to access that kind of sound in my DAW. Thank you and much respect to Jonas Eriksson for the software!

I agree. A very cool instrument AND it's free! Highly recommended. Jonas is certainly on a roll.

I dont get it, the modes all sound pretty samey to me and only control over the effects section, or have I missed something?

It sounds kind of like of a cut down version of Ogun.

I like the original Rings quite a lot, and don't get along with this one. Part of it is the obfuscation of the controls, when I'm super familiar with how everything works on Rings. Part of it is that I use the audio input quite a bit and I feel like anyone / any clones that don't are mostly missing the point. This is just so much less flexible and awkward to control.
That said, on Minifreak there's a lot you can do with a Modal oscillator (based on Rings code but no audio input). For instance, max the decay and assign AT to the volume, and set "osc" 2 to a comb filter...
