I definitely listen more closely when stoned. I just hone in on the sound in a way I struggle to while sober. My bends are more in tune, vibrato is better, but everything else is probably a little worse. But not much worse if I'm well practiced. My timing will go to shit if really stoned. But just a little high and I think I'm alright.

Alcohol makes me a much worse guitarist in every way.

I much prefer opium in those long ornate chinese pipes. Then, like Procol Harum's A Whiter Shade of Pale, kick back and let the ceiling fly away and play the best stadium encore ever......works like magic every time.
i don't have the right hat for opium in a little pipe.

My first serious band had a no substance pre-show rule. First time it was proposed the rule was made with an exception for me. I could do whatever I wanted ☻ I would never drink and play (still wont as alcohol is bad for timing, focus, muscle control/hearing response etc...). Usually a couple tokes pre=show and between sets or a half tab of acid was good. Both kept me more focused and in the moment. Acid was also good for energy over long fast songs or sets. Fun times.

Now its just weed that I enjoy and it really has positive results in making music. Although, sometimes I will just get lost in playing and not bother with the recording work part. That's the only downside if it is one even.

Everything sounds amazing to me when smoking, then when I listen the next day....no it was shit. That's been my experience anyway, I've cut way down on the the herbature when making music.

:) Phew!!! I'm glad you saw the funny side, I was worried I'd been a little too caustic.
I'm actually not a smoker and really very square.

I've not smoked cigarettes for 10 years and cannabis resin for over 28 years.

Here's the thing. When playing stoned (in my late teens/early 20's), things sounded great. I once decided to record a stoned session, it was amazing. When I listened back sober, expecting to have hit new levels of creativity, it sounded utterly crap!

I reckon being stoned heightened the hearing senses, it wasn't the playing.
I can't drink and play, not had a drink for nearly a decade.

im wanting a new one, battery in mine doesn't hold a charge anymore, so isn't portable grrr
You haven't ask me but my opinion: get a butane driven vaporizer. I switched from a Mighty to a Dynavap 7 years ago and I'm happy.

Edit: I don't play guitar but making music and being lifted can be a hit or miss. I don't separate consuming canna and making music but I don't think I would be more creative or less focused. Back in the day when I was still drinking alcohol I had the effect of "this tracks rocks" while intoxicated; the upcoming morning was like "no, this is trash".
It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?
