Imho you should give it a try...
I bought in February, during the entry price period and I am still spending more time with it than with any other synth I own (and I fortunately have a lot...) ...the more I used it, the more I love it (but, of course that's personal taste...)
First, It is not "focus on a single genre": for instance, if you consider the really good VA oscillators by themselves, you could do whatever genre you want (and by the way, how many synth you know which allows you 7 different sounding unison mode with up to 16 voices per oscillator?)
...and it is not standard "vector synthesis" at least as it was originally intendet (audio mixing of 4 waveforms through a square-mix chart/joystick or along a vector path ): instead of 4 waveforms, think about using 4 "live changing / evolving sound engine" originated by different algorithms you can choose from a long list and fine tune through lot of specific parameters (you create and fine tune them in the forge "lab" tab and then you can save / use the result in the "synth" page)...then add additional way to manipolate the result in the synth section (warp/mutate/DNA live section) or with the "standard" filter section. Finally all modulation, fx etc...
Last suggestion, do not judge by eyes: try the freemium (free version) and judge with your hears...

Anyone who claims that any synth is “genera specific,” is just saying that they rely on presets, which is fine, but if you’re interested in programming your own sounds, any synth could be used in any genre.

"Absolutely WILD!" was my reaction to the sounds I was hearing on my first encounter with VECTRA on a YouTube video. Lots of great synths out there, but the look, feel, and sound of this synth delivered an extra bit of intrigue and excitement. I jumped right in, and it's been a never ending journey of discovery - VECTRA is different, broad, and very deep in its procedural DNA Forge and various "Engine Bays" sound generation paradigms.
While certainly a sound designer's dream synth, it's also an artist's and producer's dream synth in terms of the wide genre reach the sound capabilities of this instrument delivers. As far as I know from the website, anyone can download and use the instrument for free. Don't want or need deep sound design? Fine, just browse, load, tweak macros, and enjoy all of the musical surprises in store. Do want or need deep sound design? From my experience as perhaps the world's greatest virtual synth and effects hoarder, VECTRA grants a degree of sound design detail straight out of the (free) box that is extremely rare among synths, free or paid.
I'm not YET a bona fide "sound designer", but there's just something very fascinating about VECTRA's unique architecture and the breadth and depth of its sound design facilities that have, for the first time, compelled me to... well... have fun!... exploring and creating my own sounds. VERY rewarding. Already, via VECTRA's built-in "Community" feature, I've discovered amazingly beautiful and interesting sounds from others that span genres, and I've begun creating some of my own, specifically for various of my projects. It's amazing to have or discover a single sonic idea, and then, with hardly any effort, see your minor tweaking here and there result in entire families of sounds from that single initial inspiration.
It's been several months now since I've acquired VECTRA, and I still feel like I've only scratched the surface of what's possible with this mad sonic machine.
I read @vscorpio's comment above, and I will defer to and completely agree with their comments regarding the sound design elements and possibilities with VECTRA that they present.
As you might've picked up by now, I'm completely blown away with my experiences thus far with VECTRA, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a completely new experience and access to sound design capability and manipulation that I really feel hasn't before been possible.

That's all very well but how come I cannot find out directly what the difference is between standard and deluxe.
I see a lot of "OMG revolutionary", Youtube O-faces, "game changer", "cheat code" stuff but very little of actual substance.
I'm not saying the synth is garbage, it may very well be the Holy Grail of synths but it's very hard to nail down exactly what's going on.
