I gave it a demo and liked it, but I didn't love it. I thought the UI was very good and easy to use, I just wasn't getting sounds that blew me away. The presets didn't sound much better than the results I was getting. As a quick comparison, I loaded up the Cubase drum machine, which is way more limited, but was consistently sounding better to me.
I think where Attack likely shines is in weird and non-traditional percussive sounds. For me, I already have tools I like for that, so it's not as valuable. I think if I'd spent $29 on this I wouldn't be mad, I'm just not sure how often I'd use it- so for me it's more valuable to use that $29 for something I love (I swear I will get Microtonic one day).

Attack on its own is… you could say pretty dry… for me that's a strength, cause that makes it one easily understandable and powerful element in a sound design chain.
If you put a granular effect behind it for example. that's when it starts to shine. It's just waiting to be mangled.
I use it with my fav sequencer and put Lese Smear behind it and I can get super interesting stuff out of it

I don't think you will get much out of this if you are a preset user. I didn't care much for the presets either, but I think the synth engine is very capable and cover a lot of grounds. I bought this to make my own sounds.

There are finally some good sounds available for the Waldorf Attack 3:

Since then, I experimented with Attack3's melodic sounds modes and learned a few things.c_voltage wrote: Wed Feb 18, 2026 8:34 pmDid check couple switching to keyb mode, with loaded couple factory kits, no, did not catch issue yet, seems ok here (Win10)hybrid2025 wrote: Wed Feb 18, 2026 10:15 am When I switch to the keyboard mode where a sound can be played melodically across the entire keyboard, Attack 3 shows strange behaviors; Sometimes it reverts to the default sound, changes to the sound are not reflected immediately, and the release gets cut off. The plugin is rather unstable and I have to reload it from time to time. I'm using Mac OS.
Has anyone else experienced the same issue?
- The range of pitched sounds that can be played is C3 to G9. B2 and below are used by other pads. This limitation was the reason why it didn't work properly before. By adjusting the oscillator's pitch, you can play across a wider range of notes.
- Attack3 does not support sample looping. All samples are treated as one-shot.
- Only WAV format can be used. AIFF files don't work. This is inconvenient for Mac users.
I wanted to use Attack3 as a synthesizer to create pads by layering multiple samples, as I had used percussion synths like KAWAI XD-5 and EMU Procussion - actually, they were quite versatile synths. But it seems Attack is not really suited for that. Attack appears to be a synthesizer specifically designed for Attack.
