You have some more control over stretch and those two modes (that WAS kind of obvious from the pic I thought). There's a formant preservation knob too. Splits now for your bass on the left and piano on the right kind of performance stuff. Velocity ranges between the layers too. (can someone please do me a favor and feel free to cut and paste this and put it into the SR forum too? I am not as available as normal- it is even 4:30 am and I am working). Oh, and yes there 'might' even be some features regarding the patches such as possible 'scrolling' but this is a rumour only. There may be some more options in sound management at least that give more flexibility and ease of use (a trademark of all IK products).

ST2.1 has some other really cool features too. How about double the amount of outputs to 16 stereo/32mono? Nice huh? Here's a feature I know you guys will like. FREE update for ST2 users. :o That's right! Well, the application part of the update is free anyway. There's also a major sound update but that is TBA. More sounds using the new stretch engine and 2 DVDs (new standard for these ST workstations). The sound update will cost something but probably not much and of course it will be optional (so you could get the features for free or the sounds too for the value of what the new sounds would cost anyway...even better value as usual). Hey, IK won the Electronic Musician editor's choice award for ST2 yesterday! Not bad eh? Wait till everyone has 2.1!

Read on another thread that it has standalone mode too... at last
Chugga says "Turn it up!!!"
For extra epointz - quote "ChuggaChugga" :D

Free upgrades are always nice :) This sounds really great! This almost sounds like Sampletank 3, not 2.1. :)

Play it by ear

Seems nice. I'm pleased with this news :)

I wonder what the new sounds will be like. I can't exactly say I'm in the market - I don't even have a decent orchestral set yet, and that's definitely #1 on my list - but it's still fun to hear about.

I think we're going to do something different. One of the benefits of SR & IK's partnering is that IK can concentrate more on the application side, even though they too have a sound design team. But, this allows things like AT2 to exist which is mind boggling. On the sound side, I am going to have the SR guys go through the XL collection and pick out the very best stuff and add other great stuff to it to make a 2 DVD complete collection. There are things that IK has that weren't put in this so that will be added plus there will be new instruments and phrases taking advantage of this fantastic stretch update. It won't be that long before it is out though.

This is what I meant though about other features people might want. The outputs and splits are just great. Stand alone is great too.

For the sake of clarity - is the upgrade to ST2.1 (the application only, not the sounds) free for all registered ST2 "full" (i.e. not ST2 LE) users? The press release specifies ST2 XL and I am but a humble ST 2 L user :(

Regards,

Derek.
Less than 1000 posts and writer's block has set in :-(

You should be all right because ST2L and ST2XL use the exact same engine.

Forever,

Kim.
