Linux Audio users of KVR: What distro do you use?

For fun, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone is using. I am going to keep it to one vote per person. If you use more than one distro, mention it in the thread.

I’ve seen several people recently mention they were using Ubuntu Studio, so it is somewhat surprising to not see any AV Linux or Ubuntu Studio votes yet. It’s only day one though, so I figure they’ll show up eventually. I’m not surprised with Mint though. My guess is that Mint and Debian will get the most votes, but that remains to be seen.

I distro-hopped a bit and ended up on Mint, no massive reason just seemed nice and tidy, worked etcaudiojunkie wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2026 3:10 amI’m not surprised with Mint though. My guess is that Mint and Debian will get the most votes, but that remains to be seen.
Having said that, as I'm getting more fluent with Linux, will probably eventually move to a 'base' distro like Debian, have LMDE on a secondary drive as a stepping stone.

Mint is a perfectly fine distro.
For the things I look for in a distro, if Fedora wasn’t around, I’d probably use Debian, just like you want to.

In order for me to determine what I wanted in a distro, I had to create a list of criteria that met my desired requirements. This is what I determined I wanted:
My Ideal Linux distribution criteria
• Community‑led governance, even with corporate sponsors
• No unilateral, monetization‑driven decisions imposed on users
• Broad, unrestricted access to software via multiple well‑integrated channels
• Large, active support community
• Excellent, centralized documentation
• Scales from minimal to full desktop use
• Multiple officially supported desktop environments
• Strong multi‑architecture support
• Fast‑moving but bounded release model (Fedora‑like)
• Reliable and low‑maintenance (no constant manual intervention)
• Actively supports system firmware updates (fwupd/LVFS)
• Early adopter of new Linux technologies, without destabilizing the OS
• Provides official immutable/atomic variants with rollback capability
• Open application ecosystem (Flatpak supported, not discouraged)
What is it that you look for in your ideal distro?

Ah! We now how 4 Mint users! This is interesting! I fully expected to see much more Debian. The others don't surprise me, because I've seen others mention those. I still know of a few people that mentioned previously that they use Ubuntu Studio. I'm also surprised that I haven't seen anyone mention that they use AV Linux.

Meanwhile it's 5. And I don't wanna vote since the only linux (Mint) machine I have is sitting in a closet wasting its battery charge on God only knows what. So imho that does not count as "for audio production"
Maybe you can do another vote on what desktop?
