Since I got ABL3 , I rarely use Phoscyon. THere's not a great deal between them, I just prefer ABL for its sequencer.

I used to use Alien303 years ago, and I still liked that. Needed external FX to get it really "acid" and tbh i've never checked out V2, but on a budget its OK.
Don't trust those with words of weakness, they are the most aggressive

Yeah Behringer made a real one for under $150 2 years ago, just go get a TD-3 and be done with it. ;)
While that's cool in its own right (what Behringer is doing), I'm looking for virtual 303. I've been testing Xhun ZeroBox and AudioRealism Bass Line 3, and while ABL3 seems to have more emulation variety/features (e.g. option for VCO reset seems like nice touch), it seems to lack diffent note division modes (afaik, couldn't find 1/8 1/16 selector you have in some other synths) that's useful for different tempo projects/sequences.

ZeroBox seems to have fairly easy to use workflow/GUI, not much menu diving and the sequencer is easy to write, and it seems that ZeroBox is either permanentally or more often in sale than ABL3, making it seem "better value", but I haven't tried other plugins yet and do wonder if there are plugins that land somewhere between these two plugins in terms of price and features, I want something that's a kin to ABL with its different emulation features but also has the option for different note division.

Coming in as the dev of the KA-303, so the usual disclaimer applies. It's not free, but it has a full demo and it hits exactly the two things you asked for, so I figured it was worth a mention.

Irregular lengths are built in. The pattern length is freely adjustable from 1 to 32 steps, so 3, 5, 7 or anything that drifts against the 4/4 grid is no problem, and there's a page system to chain several step pages into longer structures. Programming is meant to be painless, the grid is scale locked so you can't hit a wrong note, and you can draw, lasso select, copy and move steps like in a normal piano roll. You can also drag a MIDI file straight in and work from there.

And once something is in the grid, you don't have to edit note by note unless you want to. A handful of knobs do the heavy lifting: Scramble reshuffles the line, Mutate evolves it, Density thins it out or fills it in, Octave Jumps move notes around, and the Groove control shifts the feel from tight to laid back. Accents and slides can be set right in the grid, and a single bipolar Slide knob takes the glide from short and snappy to long and drawn out. So you can drop a few notes and twist your way to a finished acid line in seconds.

For genuinely free, Creakbox and Dolphin (Signaldust) come up a lot in here and are worth grabbing. But if the odd length sequencing is the main thing for you, the demo should tell you pretty quickly if it fits.

Ha, fair enough, and thanks for the tip. You're right, a new plugin should stand on its own thread and take whatever discussion comes with it. I'll open one so it has a proper home. Wasn't looking to hijack anyone's thread, the odd length sequencing just happened to line up with what was being asked, but point taken. Bring on the hefty discussion, that's exactly the kind of feedback I'm after. See you over there.

Cheers
