With All These Emulations Coming Out...

Can't SOMEBODY make a freaking A6?
At least then I could die in peace. Is this synth so hard to make? I know there's a demand so that can't be it. And please don't tell me about UVI's pathetic attempt at this with samples. I want a real A6.
Why do you think nobody has come out with this yet?

It came out in the wake of the VA supersaw synths that defined dance music at the time, and so even though it's apparently revered by many it's not popularly associated with a particular sound or time period in electronic music. Everyone knows what a Moog, Juno, Oberheim or Virus sounds like, but an A6? I have no idea. It doesn't have the nostalgia factor.
It's probably not all that easy for a developer to find someone with one that still works and who's willing to lend it.

Harder than every emulation that's ever come out? Harder than every VST that's ever come out? I find that hard to believe. Falcon couldn't have neem easy. Omnisphere couldn't have been easy.

It is an extremely complex synth with custom chips that have not been documented. And a lot of the synth depends on the digital part, too (all the modulations etc.). This makes it way more difficult to emulate than your usual analog synth from the 80s.

I must admit I wasn't a fan of the hardware, but I found this interesting reading.

Yes, and the Hartmann design is still outstanding!zvenx wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 12:49 pm I must admit I wasn't a fan of the hardware, but I found this interesting reading.

One of the best looking synths to me, still.
Soundwise I am rather unimpressed.
In the story you linked it says that Bob Moog and Tom Oberheim were aboard?
Some more character in the sound would have helped I guess.
But the GUI alone would sell quite a few of those plugins...

I'm watching this video
Is there anything that even sounds close to this and can come close to doing what it can do? I can't think of anything I own and I own practically everything.

Falcon and Omnisphere are not emulations of any specific synthwagtunes wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 12:42 pmHarder than every emulation that's ever come out? Harder than every VST that's ever come out? I find that hard to believe. Falcon couldn't have neem easy. Omnisphere couldn't have been easy.
The problem with an Andromeda plugin is you would have to nail the sound or there would be no point and no one would buy it

I tried to build one in Synthedit BITD, but tapped out. It may look simple, but it's very complex.

Two of the dudes from MOK worked on the Andromeda.
REAPER + Davinci Resolve Pro on Manjaro KDE. Neve 88m. Focusrite 18i20 2nd gen. Neumann NDH30 headphones. Mics: Telefunken TF39, AT4050, Miktek C7e, EV RE-15. VSTs: u-he Hive 2, F'em, Renoise Redux, Apisonic Speedrum 2.

The filters are really good.
Besides of them I still didn't hear any character that makes me drool or scream
"nothing else can do that!"
There are a few modern multi capable synths that can do these things for me.
If somebody would make a plugin out of it I think I might demo it.
But as Dragon and others stated it seems to be on the rather challenging side to make an emu of that.

Okay, what are these modern vsts that can sound like that and can you post an example? I'm highly skeptical.whassup wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 10:05 pmOh, finally a video with some good presets.wagtunes wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 8:28 pm I'm watching this video

Well, it has a Moog ladder and a SEM filter, for starters. Oscillators are an early Moog design (921b module from the original Moog modular). These don't sound absolutely identical to their vintage counterparts due to reasons, but you can use that as a baseline.
The rest is all about digital control and the ungodly amount of perverse details Alesis went to (for example, oscillators have coarse tuning in semitones, fine in cents, and superfine in millicents, there's both linear and exponential FM of pitch and also audio rate modulation of pulsewidth. There's a post-filter mixer where you can bring the sine of both oscillators and ringmod after the filter. Envelopes have a ridiculous amount of curve options for an analog synth. Stuff like that.)
Realistically, all of these features are found in Tranzistow one way or another. While it's not a direct emulation, feature set of Tranzistow was absolutely inspired by Andromeda among other synths (HrastProgrammer owns two Andromedas).
