Cakewalk Z3ta+ v1 free with Computer Music Mag

Just to say, I heard back from Cakewalk today - seems there was a glitch during my registration, all is sorted now. As was said earlier z3ta+ works 100% from the serial, no registration code is needed (or given out during the registration process). Well done Cakewalk. As for the upgrade to z3ta+ 2.1, I show as having z3ta+ registered to my Cakewalk account so I'd guess that qualifies for the upgrade as a z3ta+ owner!

No. The CM version wasn't different to the "normal" version of z3ta+. If you ever owned it, you should have registered it.The PaTh wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 5:01 pm Thanks to reply .

Unfortunately, even if you still own the mag, you can't get a serial for z3ta+, as they ran out of serials decades ago. And, Computer Music mag is dead anyway. As is Cakewalk as a company.
I don't see any chance to get a hold of it now, apart from taking over someone's Cakewalk account.

You need a serial number from what I remember.
Didn't someone make modified versions? Like a virus version or something? Can't recall if those needed Z3ta+ to work.

I found a Computer Music Disk from June 2012 but there is no Z3ta v1 in the plugins folder.
There is a Zebra CM. Are you sure you're not remembering that one instead?
If CM did have Z3ta it might have been a one month only giveaway as usually plugins stayed in the collection for quite some time.
Z3ta does show in my Cakewalk account but that was the full purchased version not a CM version.
Unless you really need Z3ta for older projects I doubt it would give much satisfaction in 2026. Possibly 32 bit only, VST2 only and GUI that would be very small at modern monitor resolutions.

I think you're right, but I also had it included in Sonar X3 and that one didn't need one (IIRC).Cuauhtli wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 7:29 pm You need a serial number from what I remember.

Sonar did, but not z3ta+.
I think I remember a Virus version, a different skin for it or something? It's been a while...

The z3ta on the CM mag was the same as the last commercial version, not a special cut down version.
V1.5.3 iirc.
V1.5.3 iirc.

Thanks to you all . Yes sure the november 2011 has Zeta as freeware .
No i don't need it so much but i liked it very much.
Yes i run my old Orion 32 bits and 64 bits in my 64 bits new pc .
Yes it's old but it was the only one so easy to use and for me computer music is just a hobby .
Really weird i don't remember to have register to get a serial and it worked . And i'm not for piracy so it was a clean install.
For exemple Alchemy CM that i found in the old contents of computer music on the net works perfectly in both Orion 32 and 64 without any serial.
Thanks for you all !

You need the serial to activate it. You can also register it to your (legacy) Cakewalk account, but, that is optional. It's handy though, as it shows the serial you need to activate it in your account. The PaTh wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 8:13 pm Thanks to you all . Yes sure the november 2011 has Zeta as freeware .

And, as has been pointed out, the version Computer Music offered with their mag in November 2011 was the full version of z3ta+, no difference to the version you could buy from Cakewalk before, unlike other plugins like Alchemy CM, which were special magware versions that CM offered in cooperation with the developers.
If you're "desperate" to run it, make a WTB inquiry here: viewforum.php?f=43
Maybe someone sells or gifts his account to you.

I checked in Sonar X3 Producer which I have installed (I also have the latest free Cakewalk Sonar version), and it has z3ta+, it is 64-bit and v1.5.4.Teksonik wrote: Fri Jun 26, 2026 7:36 pm Unless you really need Z3ta for older projects I doubt it would give much satisfaction in 2026. Also I just found an old email where I was mentioning to my friend that it was with the German version of Beat magazine. You just had to enter your name and email, and they send you the serial for it. It's not there anymore, since that was way back in Dec. 2012.
A very small GUI in the latest Cakewalk Sonar, but not in the old X3.

Remember this OSC?
https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/2011/osc-31-z3ta
Also, I found a bank I had saved (way back when) that someone created.
It puts the patches in categories, such as Arp, Lead, Atmosphere, Seq, etc.
I wonder if that's here on KVR somewhere?
I don't think I can upload it since I didn't create it myself.
