But, 25% off how much?
Nobody told me about Waves Update Plan $$$$

Yes, that's who they are - they apologized wholeheartedly, admitted that they had messed up and promised to never do it again. Their response to the criticism was pure class.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 12:36 pm Remember in 2023 when Waves briefly tried going subscription only and the backlash was so fierce they had to completely backtrack? That's who they are. But at least they did backtrack and apologize. So credit where it's due there.

Yes, of course, since Apple have a loooooong history of breaking backwards compitability. Maintaining compatibility tends to be a lot of work for application developers, which is why WUP is such a fair system - again: those who cause the work pay for it. With most other developers the Windows users have to pay for the Apple development. And that's a fact.elxsound wrote: Thu Jun 25, 2026 3:35 pm On Mac, it was required and it didn’t have to do with silicon

I have experienced. My friend gave me an iPad, which was basically a paperweight. Wouldn't/couldn't update OS, so no apps ran because you need the latest version of the OS to run them. It was not that old either.

I'm not for sure some of you understand this, but because Apple releases a new OS does not mean you have to upgrade to it.

Not entirely true. We had to renew our WUP to get compatibility when going from Intel to Silicon Macs (v13 IIRC). But, yes, other than that, I don't think most people have any clue what WUP is and when it is/isn't required. And, that is Waves' biggest problem IMO. They've created this scary thing that really isn't even a thing in most cases, but it singlehandedly kills their own sales. One read through threads like this tells you exactly that - most people simply don't understand it.psycho45039 wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 5:37 pm I'm not for sure some of you understand this, but because Apple releases a new OS does not mean you have to upgrade to it.

Unfortunately this is far from true, especially if your main DAW is Logic Pro. It frequently requires a rather up to date OS version to install its latest version which may be necessary for critical bug fixes. Of course that is entirely Apples fault that they force this.. doesn’t make Waves less shit of a company though. Learned that the hard way more than a decade ago and haven’t given them any money since and never will.psycho45039 wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 5:37 pm I'm not for sure some of you understand this, but because Apple releases a new OS does not mean you have to upgrade to it.

Well, it is this ongoing issue of...like...
how do software devs make money nowadays?
Well, perhaps smaller companies...
Subscriptions!!! That is the answer!!!
But what was the question, exactly???

Whatever the question, the answer is...
SUBSCRIPTIONS!!!

Same here. There are a handful of Waves plugins that are absolutely perfect and I've wasted a bunch of money to find replacements. That being said, I absolutely detest WUP.paramita123 wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 1:54 pm I'm not in love with WUP, BUT there are a couple of Waves plugins I LOVE and would happily purchase the upgrade plan for IF I have to in say 3 or 4 years.

Been thinking of solving this (not just for WUP but with other older plugins as well) by using some networked plugin hosting like Vienna or Audiogridder. Anyone with any experience of those?
