hi,

I want to use bass samples. But all the sampled bass guitars I've used has sounded to 'clean', as in perfectly played, jazz fusion, Marcus Miller type sounds.

I want hard, gritty playing, as made popular recently by the likes of Franz Ferdinand, LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Thin White Duke, etc etc. And of course on all those old New Wave records like Gang of Four, late The Clash, some Billy Idol stuff, etc. I think most punk bands have the same bass sounds, but you can't hear it underneath those distorted guitars...

The closest one I've found so far is the 4front bass module. But it's a little too 'safe' and it's also untweakable.

Please help!!!
I'm mostly into vintage VSTis.

Hehe, know what you mean, too much smoov jaaath bass around and not enough twang. More ooky and Jean-Jaques!

U;ve been using one in ST2 a lot, but thats a bit of an overkill just for the bass. Floyd put up some nice samples of his ibanez active on his site;

That have a nice bit of twang, it's mapped for nn-xt though not too hard to convert I shouldn't wager.

Yes yes yes. More JJ a true bass god 8) I still maintain that the bass sound on Rattus Norvegicus is just the most angry/dirty bass sound ever committed to record. :)

Anyway, to answer the question, I use 'rock and roll true stacc A', in Trilogy. Its pretty dirty, or ..I just plug me Ricky in :wink:
