I am pasting the text from an email from the folks at Soundpaint.
As a long time Soundpaint user and as someone who has bought many instruments for the player, I am absolutely excited. This sounds amazing.
Start message:
This is the biggest release in the history of Soundpaint.
I'm somewhere between excited and scared-shitless to give you a live demo this weekend. Soundpaint V has been in deep production for years. But it's here, and we're ready to show!

Winners and Loopers.
A few months ago we held our 2nd One Sound Contest. One Sound is a special contest where our users create an entire piece of music using only a single sound source.
This weekend we're going to listen to those submissions, and play with them, live, through our new Soundpaint V Looper.
So you've got the winners of the contest. And you've got our brand-new Looper.
Looper is a vintage recording studio built right into Soundpaint. Five parallel tape machines, built around a different way to make music. Keeping you in the creative flow at all times.
Record and play while you load new programs. Drag and drop or slice up your favorite loops directly in Soundpaint. Trigger samples straight from your typing keyboard.
You can even record through your webcam or the built-in streaming radio.
It's how your favorite music was made. Played with hands. Recorded to tape. Layers upon layers. Guided by your ears, not a dead, static, quantized grid.
Looper is a musician's tool. You don't need anything else. Let's play (with) your music. Saturday, June 27th. 11AM PT.
See you on YouTube
Best, Troels

No it really isn't.
Make up your mind...Looper is a musician's tool. You don't need anything else.
I like Soundpaint, but I don't see anything to get excited about with this version.

I think Soundpaint is very good and it gets very little exposure, there are some absolute gems in their sample library but the pricing and all the different options (UDS or normal etc) can make it a bit confusing for new users.
I hope they do well with this version, Soundpaint is completely free and you get about 15 pretty cool sample based instruments included, so definitely worth trying (current version is 4.5)

Looper is an 'optional' paid add-in to Soundpaint, the actual update (like the software) is completely free - It's hard to complain about free software, its better than Kontakt in many ways and its free (as are many of the sounds). The commercial sounds available are also very well priced compared to NI- often under 50 bucks and its easy top get money of that (I am constantly been sent vouchers). No complaints from me if they want to try6 and make some nmoney with add ins, I realy apricate them keeping a very power sampler (and instrument maker) free,m-ac wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2026 8:03 am So first they started charging for updates to expansions (palindrome), and now you have to pay for any significant updates to the player (looper). Yeah, no thanks.
I am not sure what you mean regarding updates for expansions, I havent had to pay for an update to my Palindrone 1 or 2, and they are totally different instruments?

Nope, they are slowly releasing other features that are coaming like different ways to trigger samples the arcade built in!
Looking at the looper demo (that's one hell of a powerful looper- I can see why they call it a micro DAW!) I think there is a new ARP coming as well.
The 'looper' is far more interesting than most and allows live recording and has an FM radio and a built in sample editor/slicer etc with time stretch, normaliser declick and even DJ scratch fx etc...I have pre-ordered it (got 15% off with code PAINT15)

The update for palindrone 1, now called palindrone 11, is a paid for update.SLiC wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2026 9:37 am I am not sure what you mean regarding updates for expansions, I havent had to pay for an update to my Palindrone 1 or 2, and they are totally different instruments?

OK- I didn't know that (I have Palindrone 1 and 2 so I assumed 11 was different samples!)m-ac wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2026 12:58 pmThe update for palindrone 1, now called palindrone 11, is a paid for update.SLiC wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2026 9:37 am I am not sure what you mean regarding updates for expansions, I havent had to pay for an update to my Palindrone 1 or 2, and they are totally different instruments?
Looks like they have just replaced 1 with 11 (and they are replacing 2 with 22 soon...) using the filter modelling I assume? (1 was already UDS)...I see there is an upgrade for older version users, do you know how much it is (you have to email them to get the upgrade cost I think). Not sure I would bother either way as more than happy with the quality of what I have!

They did this almost immediately after it was launched (V1.1) and with version V it can even sample from a mike with the looper!simmo75 wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2026 2:16 pm Interesting.
Did they open it up to user samples too, so you can create your own patches to use within Soundpaint?

Yes, as noted, there is going to be a free update to the core Soundpaint engine. These are just off the top of my head, there's going to be more to it.
- Updated arpeggiato
- Removed their user sampler, and created a built-in, drag and drop sampler function with slicer and such that I am very excited about . . . I love working inside the plug-in and this just allows so much more work to be done, particularly with my own samples.
- More effects
- and more stuff I don't know about or can't remember.
Yes, the looper function is a paid add-on, but again when you combine it with the functions of the free engine, there's just so much work you can get done here, in my opinion.
Granted, I have bought a number of instruments and so this is particularly exciting for me. I understand as someone who hasn't bought anything from them, that it seems like a lot.
For me, I have had almost no issues with their software and the performance of some of their instruments is so good that it is locked me into the plugin.
