My submission for this challenge:
https://soundcloud.com/yyeet4444/flicker-1
DAW:
Ableton 12
65 - OB-Xf
Stock Plugins:
13 - Utility
11 - EQ Eight
8 - Reverb
5 - Auto Pan-Tremolo
3 - Delay
2 - Compressor
1 - Envelope MIDI
1 - LFO (because OB-Xf's synced LFO somehow sounds different depending on where my playhead starts from)
3rd Party Plugins:
3 - TB Reverb v3
2 - LoudMax
2 - GATE-12
2 - kHs Clipper
1 - MWaveShaper
1 - MRingModulator (used for ring mod sidechain)
1 - TB BusCompressor (used for ring mod sidechain)
1 - TB Barricade v3
1 - MLoudnessAnalyzer
1 - Signalizer
My schedule has been super packed recently and I'm going through some stuff, so this track was quite the journey! It started as a bunch of different ideas written at separate times which I thought would work together, turns out they didn't lol, but I managed to merge them all together.
There are some questionable mixing decisions, but I've decided to embrace them. To me, those imperfections represent the hurdles I'm currently facing and I don't want the track to sound as "well made" so I can listen back and reminisce on this moment. But don't let this stop you from giving any feedbacks!
Hope you guys enjoyed the track and feel free to leave any comments or feedback!

There was some complaining about using Frequency Shifter+, so I removed it and updated the details here. Much better track info now...

Hello everyone,
Here's my entry for this month's challenge.
Not gonna lie, this one fought me from the very beginning. I had a really hard time getting the sounds I wanted, and there were a few points where I was ready to throw in the towel.
At one stage I even thought maybe I should just lean into what this synth does best instead of trying to force it into something else. Then again, part of the fun of OSC is hearing people do things with a synth that seem impossible. I'm still learning, and I'm still a long way from being able to do everything I hear in my head.
The track also ended up going in a direction I hadn't planned. That finale definitely wasn't part of the original idea. Maybe that's down to my sound design, maybe it's the synth, or maybe both. But we're all racing the clock here, so at some point you just have to stop tweaking and call it done.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

BTW, at the beginning of the render (Reaper), regardless of 0.5 sec padding, there is a hearable click.
It looks like rendered values do not start from zero. It does not happen during playback within the DAW.
If it's an issue with the plugin, then maybe something the plugin authors can look at
I just solved it by adding 5ms of fade-in during render.

That's somewhat normal for free-running oscillators: they will start mid-phase. Maybe there's no minimum attack? Often synths will add 0.1 milliseconds or something of attack as the minimum value to smooth it. Probably just add attack manually? OB-Xf definitely has free-running oscillators.

Here's my entry:
https://soundcloud.com/richard-semper/r ... nge-in-the
Used 19 instances of OBXF in Mulab 10.2
DAW Fx: Limiters, HP and LP Filters, EQ.
Free Fx plugins used: Voxengo Marvel GEQ, Solaris, Sirial, Valhalla Supermassive.
This implementation of the OB-X synth is much more fun to use than its predecessor. Sound design was great! I would start with randomize as inspiration for making patches and see where it led me. Kick and snare were made using a couple of layers each.
