I'm obsessed with the Soft Tines preset in Surge and I'd like to have some options that have a similar field. Like a piano or maybe a rhodes sound, but one that can be naturally held and elongated without seeming artificial.
Do any of you have any recommendations for more VSTs or sources like this? Maybe just for piano plugins that play nice with MPE?
Recommend me Piano sounds

A lot of folks seem to like True Piano.

The “EPiano” sound in Surge XT’s LinnStrument MPE > Keys is I think good.

Pianoteq has dozens of physically modeled pianos with hundreds of presets. You'll probably find something you like! Though you might have to play with the velocity curve to get something that "feels" right.

Pianoteq, also my fave, not sure where the MPE limitations lie, it certainly is per note because per note pitch bend works straight off, though range needs customizing. Under settings, Midi, changing Global Midi-mapping to "Full-Featured" shows how many different settings might be available to be controlled by channel aftertouch or cc74, though I haven't tinkered to be able to say if it falls down. I suspect, this has been largely overlooked by most of us, given as I say, per-note pitch works great. (note it also has a great classical guitar, fantastic electric pianos and much more)D3sertDog wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2026 9:08 pm Pianoteq has dozens of physically modeled pianos with hundreds of presets. EDIT: Actually, full-featured doesn't even show all the different possible params controllable, whereas, clicking on a parameter name (the 3rd column) then Set Parameter, reveals every possible destination, of which there are tons.
SECOND EDIT: Channel Aftertouch and 74 don't seem to be per-note after all
Therefore TLDR, pianoteq is amazing but as far as the OP's plays "nice with MPE", only plays nice with pitch bend (and therefore vibrato technique as well)
