What's the point of having more than one Osc in any synth, analog or digital, hardware or software? Think it over.....cobaia wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:19 pm What is the point in having 6 identical main oscillators in an analog synth?!
They don't have to be "identical". They can have different waveforms, different octave, semitone, and fine tunings.

I was actually hoping to see this synth get an update to allow bi / tri timbral patch support. More like the Moog One.

I guess there is a reason why most synths only have 1 or 2...Teksonik wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:32 pmWhat's the point of having more than one Osc in any synth, analog or digital, hardware or software? Sure, 2 sounds fatter than 1. But is there any difference between 3 and 6?

You get 2 oscillators that can be used as extra lfo's or for fm sounds and still have 4 more for adding some subtractive mojo to the sound.
So you can make more complex sounds with it compared to a 3 oscillator Model D.

It gives you more sound design options, in the case of The Legend HZ, you can also use the extra oscs as audio rate modulation sourcescobaia wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:19 pm What is the point in having 6 identical main oscillators in an analog synth?!![]()
And of course you can design patches that are like having two polyphonic minimoogs layered on top of each other
The extra features were all ideas that Hans Zimmer had been kicking around in his head for years that he wanted for his sound design and scoring

Of course there is a reason. I have several synths with 24 Oscs and one with a theoretically unlimited number.cobaia wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 1:55 pm I guess there is a reason why most synths only have 1 or 2...

Yes there is a difference between 3 and 6 but the fact that you asked the question leads me to believe that providing an answer will be pointless. Experience will give you the answer.
Like I said different waveforms, octaves, semitones, fine tuning, etc. Oscs routed through different Filters, Effects, etc, etc.
If you just need bone simple sounds then yeah stick with one or two but if you want something more complex then more Oscs = Wider range of possible sounds.

Judging from the GUI, Legend does not allow for routing oscillators through different filters, effectsTeksonik wrote: Thu Jul 02, 2026 4:34 pmOf course there is a reason. It doesn't even seem to have multiple filters.
Maybe I will try the demo, but I don't want to like it, the price is too much for me
