  2. You make an awesome track before the 1st of next month using only the chosen synth and some effects *Rules Apply*
  3. Announce your submission here on this thread, with proper details
  4. At minimum, please mention # of instances of the synth, the DAW (Reaper, Ableton, etc), and all plugins.
  5. Submit your soundcloud link here following the correct format for title, download enabled, and submission description. Your song will be picked up on the OSC player
  6. Once submissions are over, the voting starts - you *MUST* vote to get a ranking or prize
  7. The voting link will be posted on the 1st, and OP will be updated.

Given the name - I should probably try it just for edification. I'll take my time, this month.

Interesting sounding synths, with lots of parameters to dive into! In case somebody else is suprised by the claim that there is only a Windows and a Linux version I can confirm that there is also a mac version, in a completely normal installation package.

Now that's a manual!
How do I fix/set the phase of the Oscillators (not LFOs)?

The developer(s) of JS80P aren't providing official builds of AU plugins for MacOS (only VST3). Thus is isn't possible to use JS80P with any version of Logic Pro natively.

Thus, I'm requesting 2 exceptions to the rules this month:

(1) for those with coding skills: allow custom builds of JS80P by enabling the VST 3 - AudioUnit v2 Wrapper features of the VST3 library.
(2) for those without coding skills: allow commercial VST3 hosting AU plugins such as Blue Cat's PatchWork

I'm unaware of any free VST3 hosting AU plugins for Logic Pro.

Anyone else having a really tough time getting the envelopes to be consistent? It seems like the voice handling in POLY mode isn't actually polyphonic. The envelope doesn't retrigger if a note is played before the release of the previous note. If I put it into BPM match it sort-of fixes it, but it's still not behaving like a poly-synth. Messed with the envelope and voice handling modes and I'm not finding a solution. Any ideas?

EDIT:

It will sometimes trigger as expected from a poly synth and other times not. It's really inconsistent. BPM mode seems like the workaround for me, but so far I'm not feelin' it.

Here's an example: https://soundcloud.com/mechanought/js80 ... al_sharing

16th triplets that are truncated to ensure that note offs aren't overlapping note on.

EDIT:
I've tried it in a new project, and with new instances, and in each case the envelope performs as expected initially, and then starts doing the behavior highlighted above. Seems to start misbehaving faster if I change a parameter on the envelope while the instrument is playing (without automation, just playing what's written and adjusting the envelope to fine-tune).

This is in Reaper 7.73

I've never used this one, but this is supposed to work, I think.

Still, does anyone know how do I fix/set the phase of the oscillators? All this PM/FM/AM functionality and nothing to control the phase?.. Also, 5.33 ms reported latency from a plugin, never saw that in my life before. The sounds lie way off grid on the oscilloscope.

Yes. I don't quite get how they work yet. Really time consuming to get a basic short pluck envelope.

Plugin Buddy by Modalics is free. But I haven't tested it yet.

Hi there, has anyone managed to make a set of drums from the synth, I don’t seem to be able to do so. Or, do you have any tips on achieving this?

Hello, I'm hoping someone could help me with installation. It's been a long time since I've downloaded new vst's. In the past I remember it was just .dll files. The package I downloaded has a .vst3 file but cubase 10 won't recognize it when I put it in my vst folder, not even as blacklisted. Does anyone know what I need to do to make it work? I didn't see any kind of installation file or anything. I've read the installation guide but it's not helping.

vst3's go in a standard place .. C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3

Microsoft decided that a bit back in time ...

I noticed that setting attack time to zero leads to inconsistent short/long attacks. More often long. Bug, no doubt. Set to anything but zero, I'm getting perfectly consistent results. Another envelope bug: decreasing the release time from 0.010 leads to an increasing ( though very small ) zero amplitude delay on note-on. Inspected in MONO mode, Windows AVX version, Reaper. I assume individual POLY voices will act similarly. It does sound like it. Voice stealing above 64 voices is a total mess of voices dropping out completely. Which presumably is another bug. Though with 64 voices that one seems tolerable. To me, anyway.

Setting the phase is a no go, I'm sure. Looking at MONO mode, I'm seeing reset to zero phase on note-on by default, provided that note-on doesn't occur during the release of the previous note, in which case the new phase seems to be random.

A few simple one oscillator drums from my fiddlings tonight. Suitable key range is included in the filename. All rather rough, but maybe they can help get you going. There's plenty of room for tweaking of filters, envelope times, pitch env depth, application of distortion, adding of second layers, effects, etc. Horrible envelope knobs for drum tweaking though, ctrl/cmd is very much needed for finetuning times. Taking a good look at the signal path in the manual is highly advisable, btw. It will help putting filters and fold/distortion to good use. And do avoid those envelope bugs mentioned above.

That is not actually the case. Any folder in the DAW's scanning path will do ; location doesn't matter. It's just one of those weird VST conventions. Certainly nothing to do with Microsoft. There's actually an increasing number of installers that let one choose VST3 installation location. I'm running most freeware from a flashdrive, atm, and everything works just fine, including JS80P. Though problems could occur with plugins using hardcoded paths, I imagine. But I've yet to encounter any.
